Once again, the is a difference between *storage* and *memory* on the device. My k700 has only 57k of storage left. But all my java apps and media files work fine. This is because the working memory space is unaffected.

yeah I've got 75. And my mem can be full and no game or phone problems whatsoever. The only resource problem I get is browsing folders with lot's of files in them (50 or more), even if the phone has lot's of free memory. The problem dissapears when few files are in the folder.
There is a joystick bug, that is fixed with firmware. This bug is sometime interpreted as "slowness". The slowness of browsing large folders may be fixed by this firmware also.
My K700i has never locked up on me, apart from java games but you can close those when they crash without restarting the phone (press and hold the back key). So even though the firmware is buggy, and the phone has more hardware to manage, it has a better uptime rate than my Mot V525 or SE T610. It obviously has more than enough system resources (ie: non-user) to cope with whatever you want to throw at it.

It is expected to slow down if you put so many stuff into the phone because the phone keeps track of the things that are stored in it to be able to manage them properly. You need to have a some memory free for most apps to work specially games because some of them use up some portions of the memory for the its operation but will just erase them afterwards. Some apps also use up extra memory for saving preferences and settings so it is always wise to keep few hundred KBs free IMO.

Don't overuse those 41 MB mate, as the fone might just 'hang'

Leave at least 3 MB of FREE space, just to be safe here pal !

3mb free is WAY too much mate! For months i've used my phone with free memory oscillating between 200kb-1000kb and the phone has never hanged on me, not even in extensive multitasking sessions ie mp3 player, my friends, java game n sms/mms all being used together.

I agree 3MB is way too much free space. I normally have between 500K to 1MB free for apps allowance and for emergency pics.

Now if you were complaining about the T610 and the 30% of it's 2MB taken up with unremoveable vodafone customisations, then I'd agree
