My favourite urban myth is "if your phone rings and the name that comes up is XXX (can't remember the specifics) don't answer it, cos it's a phone virus and it'll make your phone permanently unusable!"
Someone actually argued with me that that hoax was genuine, since her boyfriend worked for O2, and they had been contacted by the police warning them about it. At that point I gave up, if anyone goes to that length to convince themselves they've not been duped, good luck to them.

I remember that - quality! I recall something to do with the word "ACE"? Don't know where that came from - possibly a plant of dubious legality...

I set my freinds nokia to go off as he was leaving tesco using the 00000 method, it didnt work so im just going to pop something in his pocket, (its pay back)
But on the topic im sure there is software out their for your phone to detect speed cameras while using ie sat nav in your car, i believe the people who make them already know were the cameras are and that information is then loaded into the software, so it doesnt really detect them,

Yeah, back on the real topic - most sat nav systems allow you to download Points Of Interest (POIs) which can include restaurants, petrol stations, hotels, football clubs (as an example of the randomness) and also, by the same logic, GATSO speed cameras. I use a TomTom GO (freestanding portable GPS unit that is not connected to the phone in any way, powers of the car charger) and I can set it to beep when I'm within a certain distance of any specific POIs. Best investment ever (behind my P910i of course....and the soon-to-be legendary PSP)

If you go into the services menu, then select text labels, then edit camera to say gps_underscorefull.stop, then press ok. After that exit to the settings, master password menu, enter "thisisnothtepassword" and click ok. The password will be rejected, so repeat two more times, and then your phone will become a paper weight

a gps receiver and a P900 is not a speed camera 'detector', it is a map of known speed camera possitions which is updated frequently on the website. they are all set on my XDA2s in TomTom like points of interest and it tells you when you are 10 seconds away from a camera or whatever time before you wish to set. i see tomtom will be available very soon for the P9 phones, but i don't know if UK postcode would work on a P9?
