a simple trick to "reset" the stick is to apply a 3.2 volt charge to pins 28 of the mem stick if it still does not work contact the manufacturer and claim under the 12month warranty or you can take it up with the seller but most just wont care.

Sounds like you damaged the stick when you shut the phone off/removed the battery.

If the app hung, and was still accessing the stick at the time you removed the battery or the stick, it could've sent a static discharge into the stick.
