cheers - updates Java and works fine now
updated from R2Y / 3.9 to R2AE/ 3.10 camera software
Still cant access the shortcuts menu - think Orange have customised phone to disable them. - why?

I'm glad you got it sorted.
You're absolutely correct about Orange disabling them. I didn't realise how much Orange ruin the firmware until I unbranded my Orange K700i about a week ago. It's so much better now!

A bloke down the car boot was charging 10 quid to unlock but I didnt ask (know) about un-branding

i am trying to get my phone debranded, have the software, the credits, a dss 25 with the patch installed (i think) but it still wont work, phone is now dead. any suggestions?

It's a completely separate thing to unlocking. £10 is a bit expensive, but that's the going rate to get someone else to do it! To unbrand, I used SE Tool, but I don't think credits are being sold anymore. However, you can use DaVinci or TMS to the same effect. Basically, it involves flashing the phone with the main firmware file and the file system, which will remove all branding.
