I wouldnt say ALL phone shop staff talk shit else you will start offending people, some know what they're on about. It also depends how you come over as a customer. But beware of puones4u, they can do good deals but they'll do all they can to get a contract out of you. The s700 deal u mention isn't bad...the phone is meant to be bout £80 on that tariff. And I've heard of no recall...but I may be wrong

Thats not too bad mate, 02 Online 50, do 50 minutes anytime and network and 500 text messages plus a s700i for free all for £19 per month. Its the tariff Im on.

The guy at phones4u told me they'd had to recall all the S700i's cos the hinge was breaking and tried to sell me a D500 (which to be fair does look like a good phone). However all the other shops on the high street were still stocking it so I thought it was more likely that SE weren't giving them good comissions on sales or they'd had some kind of argument.
Incidentally e2save have a good deal on vodafone for the s700i. That's where I got mine:
