the advantage of flash over gif is that you can mix animation with code!! So for example you could make an animation that is different everytime its run.
the compatible phones use swf files, which are created primarily with macromedia flash.
There are a whole host of tutorials on the web and at macromedia.com
you can also read the time and date functions, and various other system properties of the phone to integrate into animations/displays

HAHA, like I said I'm new to this stuff, don't know which to use is better. But looking at the tutorial I think it's easier to do what I want to do in freehand, I could be wrong.

Got another question. Could I make an image in Photoshop that includes text and then animate just the text with Flash MX?
