just wonder what the logic behind it is...

Carier have a server called SGSN (GPRS) server. Probably it's not powerfull enough to control all the clients to reduce load on server ther disconetc it. Also network trafic goes down because always attaced gprs exchnge data with carier to see if there is connection.

You should not have any problems since it reataches as easy as you sad.

Also should not be a problem to get MMS. Since first you resive massage like SMS (system sms which you dont even see) it say to you phone to connect using MMS profile and download data.

Did it help?

The provider has an intermitent switch program which 'sees' u r not using the gprs and turns it off allowing others to use that channel. This way the netwotk is not congested at times. What u can do is turn on ur automatic e-mail collection every 4 hours allowing the gprs to be on at all times. At least,it works here cuz the timeout for the gprs on my nw is of 6 hours. But for some networks is as short as 30 min even can be 5.
+why do you have to be connected all the time? DO You like that blue symbol that mutch ? GPRS will reatach as soon as you will need it.
also it will save your battery well not mutch

my t610 on orange only showed the GPRS symbol when i was actually using it and my O2 p900 shows it all the time. to be honest i didn't notice any change in service at all - maybe slightly slower connecting to internet - but that could be the phone?

deffinatly no problem recieving picture messages or anything like that.
