Well you have to understand that Sony is not the same as Sony Ericsson, which is still different from Ericsson. Just because one of the parent companies uses a technology, it doesn't mean that the joint venture will have unrestricted access to that technology. With that said Sony managed to make use memory sticks, so you do have a slim chance of getting Atrac onto your P.

Hi there!!!

Since everyone wants smaller mp3s why not trying encoding your songs with the mp3-pro encoder??? Quality is almost the same with original mp3s (as you can hear them using a phone) but size is smaller from 30% (most cases) to 45% (some cases). I had an album consisted of 13 songs which was converted to mp3 occupying 56MB of disk space and when i re-encoded it to mp3-pro, the disk space reduced to 29 MB!!! I think you should try it. Mp3-pro encoder can fe found in NERO burning software and maybe in some other applications.
Give it a try.

same here, my minidisc player uses Atrac 3 plus and Atrac Type R, which i'm really happy with.
but i do have a lot of normal mp3's.

I would have thought thats what the W800 will use as it is a walkaman after all...

they aren't the same for phones as they are for computers. Codecs are operating system specific Most applications for phones have codecs built in if they need them, and generally aren't expandable. Problem is that I don't think anyone can even get their hands on a PC Atrac3 codec that they can reverse engineer.
