I've used Nokia 2110i, 8110i, 6150, 7110, 8850, 8890 and they have all crashed at one time or another. That also goes for some Ericsson models such as the T18s and T68i. It depends on how you use your phones.

As for slow menus, Nokia have also had good menu designs and they're simple to use. Ericsson has had to play catch up. Ericsson menus are also too CPU intensive (more graphics and bigger menus per screen - the T28s with it's TAB folders was in effect one big main menu rather than Nokia's clever split of using sub-menus for each option, there is NO main menu on Nokia).

It'll get better with faster low power CPUs. (I hope).

The thing is with this, you need to see that the T68i and other phones have much more advanced features and graphics than Nokia's. Nokia's (apart from the 7650 and 9310) all use the same basic menu system, there is never really anything new, apart from things like a radio - WOW, I think not. phone's constantly advance, more features, different menu's etc. Just think about what your T68i has to handle with - even just the themes are quite intensive, all those different colours on each part of the menu's, can you do this on a Nokia mono-chrome screen??? I think not !!!

have to agree with original poster, menu on these phones is too slow to be acceptable, t28 was ridiculously slow and t68 is not much better...SE staff need to use other brands to see what time it is. fancy graphics mean nothing with lousy performance, save the excuses just address the problem. also, if all your last phones have been ericssons then your used to it and wont be able to relate, others will. I can understand the slow performance on the T39, R520, T68 (understand yes, not excused mind you) but on the T28, R310, T20??? These are nothing more than plain phones... (I should know, I own all of them )

My point is, I know why the newer phones are slow... to save battery...no other phone on the market lasts as long WITH SUCH LOW BATTERY mAh. But at least give the users the option to switch the OS into high gear should they feel it neccessary to do so.

You, the guy who talked about fully multitasking OS, what else do you know about the OS and software on these phones (as of T28)?

I'd be happy for information on that.

Nokia uses windows 95, ericsson uses windows nt - fully multitasking so is slower with the same CPU. Not only that E/// uses UNDERCLOCKED CPUs to further reduce voltage and power requirements, but at the cost of performance. I was only kidding....

Seriously, I don't think phones (not smartphones) have a FORMAL OS but if you'll notice phones are the most multitasking phones. Notice how pop-up windows come up and you resume exactly where you left off afterwards. Calendar and SMS alerts pop-up even when you're on WAP. This isn't how it is with Nokias.

Though I have to agree that a clock-throttling mechanism be implemented so it can be sped up at user interaction and then go to low-power mode at standby...

Also contributing to slow SMS is the SMILEY parser that converts text smileys to bitmap. This is tested for at every keystroke...

This holds true only for the T39, R520 and T68... not the T28, T29, R320, and R310... they are all sooo slow.

I thought someone mentioned that the R320 simply reused the T28 platform. They added a load of features without increasing the computational capacity of the system, thus resulted in the awfully slow R320....

I don't think so, I had both the T28 and R320 at the same time, the R320 was noticably faster than the T28.

About muti-tasking phones.

They do use an OS but I would guess they refer to it as a "platform".

The R600 is not that way. I think. It loses everything when a call comes in it seems. If you're writing SMS and a call comes in, I'm not sure you can return to that. I know it loses it's gprs connection and wap-page when a call comes in.

I think the R600 and T65 are similair in speed and there's nothing to complain about when it comes to that. They both have grey scale displays and much of the grey scale gui looks the same. However, the R600's inability to use any of the snap-on things (cameras, mp3-player and those things) would suggest they "sacked" alot of functionality. It's interesting that it can't tell how much standby-time remains.

Many things look nicer on the R600, like the sms-editor (comparing to T65). But WHY does it (R600) use ezi-text instead of T9? I have trouble believing that it is due to license fees to tegic. eZi-text would have its license-fees as well. In some ways eZi-text is BETTER than t9 (you can browse similair words with the navigation-button) I haven't tried that on t9 though.
