Very true, every 02 store seems to have there own seperate rules.
As striker says above, the store manager's obviously have some freedom over the catalouge... of course they do, thats why they can price match, or include some free accessories to swing the sale.

Here's what happened to me yesterday....
I popped into my local O2 store yesterday and asked if i could see a demo of the k750 to which the shop assistant replied "we don't do demo's"...i said and why not?..he replied we are in short supply of this handset so we cannot afford to demo a new handset like this.So i said ok so can i at least just have a look at one..to which he replied yes no problem i'll go and fetch one for you.he came out a couple of mins later with a box and took the phone out and said there you go.Then he suddenly says let me put the sim card and battery in it so that you can turn it on..to which i just gave him a funny look!..He was offering to let me play with the features, which he initially said he could'nt do...What a weirdo!

Yes i'm sure they have some freedom but it is still false advertising as it say nothing about the deal being at the managers disgresion

yeah, I suppose it is false advertising. I'm sure if you went back into the store calmly and asked to speak to the manager he'd sell it sim free.
Please forgive my ramblings on o2's side... I'm just making this argument as I just got a k750i and came back to this forum, but need 10 posts to show my k750i icon

i doubt it i really if they only think of the money i expect they are on a bonus system for every contract phone they sell so will tell you any bullshit not to let oyu have what you want its about time these so called phone shops with so called sales advisor actually did what they are paid to do they should do as you say not the other way round the customer is always right they should remember that its the consumer that pays their wages

Wrong as it is, they are well covered by all sorts of disclaimers and the reasoning is simply that while stock is limited, the retailers want to maximise the profit they are making on each handset, which is done by selling them with new connections. I don't know but would it be more expensive to get it on an O2 100 contract, for example, than sim-free? Still annoying, but a possible solution. No excuses for the rudeness and blatant stupidity though!
And as for this...

I actually have a bad story from my visit to the o2 store buying my k750i yesterday...
Selling me the insurance; I explained that I was going to be buying a 1gb memory stick pro duo card, and they cost about £100, would that be covered on the insurance?
He told they actually sell them in the o2 catalouge for £199 and I'd be able to claim that on the insurance. The one they sell in the catalouge is the "high speed" version.
After getting home and looking through the paperwork, the insurance only covers me for accessories upto the value of £25

I have email consumer advice uk to see where we the consumer stand on this matter, so its a case of waiting and seeing.

The cheapest way to get the k750i phone is to take a £30 p/m contract (the lowest contract you can get it free on), and after 3 months, knock it down to the lowest line rental tariff.
