They have to renew too. There was a case of
hotmail.co.uk not renewing their domain not so long ago.

Domain names should not be abused like the domain parkings or the mass registration (of names that has nothing to do with the company name/business/sector).
It's really a pain to find a domain and if you find one it's reserved by one of those mass market registrars.

I wanted the domain wdt.org to go with my webdesignteam.org domain but it was being "used" by one of those sites - I tried to steal it under the new domain rules since it wasnt registrar locked and the guy was using a false email address but it didn't work
now its locked and had another year put on it...

3 letters names are hard to get and can have a high $$$, there is a really good and friendly forum somewhere about domain names and that can help you next time, will try to find it back

You can try lobbying these
dudes for international / US domains (eg. .com, .org etc) or
these for UK if you wish to dispute a domain.

Yeah I know they're hard to get and really desirable, thats why I was so disappointed when I missed out. I was going to use it for subdomains for other areas of my site like domains.wdt.org and hosting.wdt.org
