Blu ray will send the cost of the ps3 through the roof, he they do go ahead and use it, which i think they won't as it's not needed. Bluray discs are more expensive to manufacture than hd-dvd discs and require new factories. Hd-dvd can use existing dvd factories with modifications. There's also 80 hd-dvd mother scheduled for the end of this year! This message was posted from a Z600

Read this click me
Another technology that will show a lot of promise some time in the future is holographic disks which will have very high data transfer rates and no spinning disks. 1TB(Terabyte) dics are expected soon. Only problem is Their price will be slightly high, $3000 per disc.

You could say HD-DVD will be cheaper to manufacture but also some companies have already put investments into Blu-ray manufacturing facilities and they won't like to see their invesments go down the drain. Also Sony has already shiped Blu-ray players in Japan if I'm not mistaken. I think what's going to settle the war is the content and who can get more of the big studios and game companies to side with them.

Remember mini-disk? That didn't last long and i doubt blue ray will either. I'd imaging everyone just using HD kind of like what everyone useing now for there music (mp3's).

ermmm minidisc is still going strong, just among proper audiophiles! i get much much better clarity from my Sony MD player than i do thro my ipod,

just need a Hi-MD hifi deck and ill jump onto that bandwagon.

minidisc as far as im aware never took of as it was very expensive for essentially a smaller CD.

i see no reason why Blu Ray wont over power DVD, i rememeber reading about blu ray years and years ago.

Blue lasers are the way forward.
