@rare, thanks a lot for the info, very helpful

so even if i buy the unit from globe, the warranty is still under semicon, so i can go straight to semicon for the service. alright, just made up my mind to get that k750i from globe even then, i'll still have to wait for application and processing.. well, patience is a virtue, i'll wait

yup, warranty is under semicon dude.

when i had the t610 i frequented semicon for firmware upgrades...they're free under warranty.

Also, when my other phone got busted, i had it repaired at semicon....repair was worth 8k...but i didn't pay a single cent...coz it was under warranty.

As far as i know all globe units are under semicon warranty.

you could also have it serviced at smartnet, which in my experience is much better than semicon.

for pricing, the rule of thumb with the telcos is that if they give away a phone for free with a certain plan, it usually recovers the cost of the phone in about 10 months. after that, they recover their subsidy in the next 14 months.

the best way to calculate whether you are getting a good deal or not is to calculate the total cost of buying an unlocked phone + the cost of the plan that you would normally get, for 2 yrs. then compare that with what the telco is offering.

from my experience, it is always better to get the phone on your own. aside from it not being locked, i can always switch networks anytime i want and don't have to wait until the end of a 2 yr period.

@senninha

that's how i calculated my total expense. cost for gflex800 + k750i for 24 mos. amounted to Php31.7T while cost for k750i(greenhills) +gplan500 cost Php32T. So i'll definitely opt for the globe option. i get 1 year warranty + Php300 worth of calls more each month.

@blue-isaac
Php12500 is for corporate package

my contact at globe says the 1 year warranty is for service only, not parts. ??

anyway, i'll be going for it.

@josephhh

Warranty is for service only when the part that you want repaired/changed is due to physical impact or any external factors.

(you can buy a case...and have it installed...installation is free...but case you have to pay for...same for other parts)

Warranty only covers parts when it is damaged by firmware or...if ever, by mishandling of authorized service people.

Years ago, I had my 7650 fixed cause it stopped working when the memory got full. Initially, Semicon just uprgraded the firmware, but advised me to monitor the phone.

Unfortunately, just when I got home, the phone stopped working again, so I took it back to Semicon...then they told me they had to change the "motherboard" entirely, also they had to replace some parts that got fried.

I got back my phone with a receipt indicating that parts were worth 8K and service was 1.5k...but total billed was P0.00

I didn't have to pay nothing...

But that was ages ago...I'm not sure what the terms are nowadays.

Since july the prices of K750i has gone up again. for g-flex800 the unit now goes for P18,200 instead of P16K (non-corporate). In greenhillls, the lowest they'll give it now is at P20.5K when it used to be P19K-P19.5K in July. I think you bought your phone at just the right time (probably an introductory price) since it has gone up instead of going down. I would have thought that the intro of the w800 would make it go down instead of up. I guess a lot of people noticed they're very similar. the w800 in greenhills goes as low as P24K, quite a good deal since you get the better earbuds and adapter + the 512mb ms. And I heard that flashing K750i in greenhills to the w800 R1K firmware costs P1,200. When you get tired of the brilliant/flashy casing u could always buy a classic one
