it could be the reception in your pocket is not as good as when you leave it on your desk. And if the reception is not good, the phone will try to search for the best network, that's why the battery drains faster.
The button press could be a reason too.

I guess the signal could be a problem as well, I never thought about that. I just hope the new P will have a bigger battery!!
