Reboot both the phone and the PC and try again.
Oh, and unlock the phone before placing it in the sync station.

Had a similar problem not being able to back up after isync to my new Apple and all the contacts went the other way. ie. my contacts went into the ether and the Apple sent its contact book (me and Apple...) to the phone. Put that one down to 'operator error'.
However, spent best part of a day on to SE to try and help me get my PC backup restore sorted. Finally after about 8 calls, someone helpfuly suggested 'resetting all' on the phone and THEN backing up. Thankfully, that worked.

Learning to use this phone is like learning to use a new operating system in some computer.
This phone is still way ahead of regular phones.
Don't give up so easily, and read a lot.
Sooner than later you will get the hang of it.

Yup i have a P910i and i love it, plus had no probs with it at all, clear receptions, to me is the best phone i have had in a very long time. But sorry to hear you had probs with it mate.
