here too we cannot check phone before buying as the box is sealed. one consolation is that we can be assured that the phone we buy is not an used/returned set.

Here in Turkey there are 4 distributors of Nokia. 3 of them sell it sealed and one w/o seal. The 10 which I have tried out were a mixed bunch of sealed and non-sealed devices, coming fm different dist's. But the billion $ price here (usd 1150) was the justification of my tests and I easiely convinced the salesman to act as per my request.
Now, if some of you don't have the possibility to check before buying, you could at least buy one first, pay the price, but open the box and try it out before leaving the shop.
This way u should be able to exchange it with another one, because a device with a loose slider is a faulty product, which is NOT acceptable.
Especially the ones which are loose at the bottom right corner will drive u mad while using the keys on the slider. Why should you then experiment & repair it with tapes, etc. if u can get one which is nearly as tight as a virgin

@myth
i didnt get mine from a shop. So i couldnt test them. I bought a few of them, opened one for my self, and left the other ones sealed in shrink wrap so i could sell them on unopened.
But as Mib said, when we are at a store purchasing, you are allowed to open it there to ensure it turns on.

That's the spirit. Cheers to Boba.
Anyway, yes. Here in Finland, I can try the BT headset, or phones. Can't take them home but I can put my sim card in, make some calls, put the phone through the paces.
Nokia has said that there will be a replacement for the current slider mechanism on the N95. We will see if this happens or not. As for the battery life, there is not much more to be done with it. There is only so much code optimization can do. Nokia obviously made a decision to go for a smaller phone than rather extended battery life. This can be seen in the design of the GPS system. Why place the antenna under the keyboard unless space was at a premium. What this means is: if long battery life is a concern, then don't buy the N95, and don't complain.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!11
I recommend using the charger that came with the phone it has a higher output voltage than the one that comes with the E61 or E series phones. They charge at 300 mAh, while the N95 charges at 800 (can't remember the exact number off the top of my head) mAh.
