unfortunately that video never actually shows the new opera browser running on the p1i - just widgets. its still possibe that it was running 9.5 as ares and others have stated that it needs to be running for widgets to work - i hope they are right but there is still room for pessimism.

1 - from the start, Opera mentioned winmo and UIQ3 has the prime platforms for the new opera mobile

2 - now we have a video, that was made to demo Opera mobile 9.5 (not the widgets or opera mini), where we see it running on a p1

well...are there reasons for pessimism?

As for Flash for UIQ -

UIQ representative who recently answered community questions (some other topic here has link), stated clearly as possible:

Flash on UIQ is not technical challenge but rather legal problem. Blame marketing and patents.

my concern is that the video never shows opera 9.5 running on the p1i - only on the winmob device. the app running on the p1i is running a stand alone app called widgets that you can see in the task manager next to opera mini.

if opera 9.5 was on that p1i why is it never shown?

again - hope i'm wrong - just dont want to get too excited about what could just be a badly edited movie clip.

The upshot being that at least the 'widgets' component has been ported to UIQ3 - unless of course that the demo P1 already has some super secret update of UIQ itself - maybe ares is on to something....

The Opera may be not a standalone application after all.
For me, the Opera 9.5 is the "Web" icon on the P1 (like today!!)
--- so, for me this means Opera will come as "Web" with a new firmware update.
