Looks like a business phone, so it's aimed to corporate customers, but at the same price of S700 sure its a good deal.

I am quite sure that SE did a marketing analysis and priced the s700 in the price range that it thinks people would pay. This stands to reason. Their marketing department would not arbitrairaly(spelling) throw out prices and hope that people would pay them. From what I have seen in Germany, other parts of Europe and the Middle East, people are willing to pay a premimum price for the s700. I do not understand why this is hard to get across. People will pay it. Not everyone, but in the cases of those that will, SE has picked the correct price point. I like everyone else have a price point, but fortunately SE has not reached it.
Second, I disagee that the s700 is a phone to show off. I tend tokeep mine in my belt clip and use my HBH-660 to do most of the answering and voice dialing. Maybe someone that is wearing fake Gucci, or Armani clothing would see it this way. My philosphy is quite simple: If you can not afford the real thing, then don't bother. Why pretend?

which brings us back to the fact that they were designed with different target markets in mind.

@Blackspot
My point exactly. Sure SE will lose some customers, but this does not compare when weighed against the income from the phones. This Marketing 101. This is not hard to figure out, but for some it just does not sink in. SE is not worried about losing or not selling the s700 to certain customers.
@Kimcheboi
Could not has said it better myself. Your PM was right on.

every phone have target customers, and it's targeted to a defined market segment, is just that sometimes this segments get mixed because of price or customer preferences, and there's where manufacturers face the real word, competition is sometimes just no messurable by equations or numbers on a paper.

One problem maybe is that the target markets are quite difficult to define nowadays as most of the new phones have combined features. Sometimes the market segments intersect/overlap which confuses many consumers.

Though i don't like their phones, i like Nokia's marketing strategy. Also, nokia is a much more focussed company than Sony. Ever heard of Nokia producing films?
