I think the general agreement has been over the pst yrs that 'smartphone' is reserved for phones with PDA features.
One might adopt 'multimediaphone' for phones with loadsa stuff like MP3 players and cameras and so on and so forth but there is no real term for it.
One thing I'd like to say: Symbian OS os not a 'smartphone OS' per se. It's an OS but a smartphone running any other OS would still be a smart phone.
3G for the business user does exist, when we focus on Vodafone we see they have focussed on the UMTS datacards more than UMTS on phones. Something that has worked remarkably well for Vodafone over here so far.
3G on phones is more aimed (currently) by vodafone on the 'fun user' like you and me.
3G and smartphone would easily combine imho, regardless of OS I feel.

I would agree with you, but I would also add that 3G smartphones won't really take off until the twin issues of battery performance and size have been properly addressed.

I guess Jap fones are very much ahead . . . compared to others, the very 1st to have the 3G fones! What will they be thinking of next?

as in 2.5G, if u can throw in the smartphone functionality in a 3G phone, it would become even more attractive, isnt it.
for example, if SE upgrade the P910 to support 3G, then I think many in Esato would ecstatic.

No doubt, but upgrading the P900 to 3G would likely involve increasing its size and reducing its battery life; I'm not too sure people would be ecstatic about that. If you look at current 3G smartphones they are rather large (even for smartphones) and don't have great battery performance. As Vlamm said, the technology is still relatively new, hence why we haven't seen many 3G smartphones.
