My 2cents worth:
If you want quality and uniqueness, then go for
.
If you are on a budget, then got for Nokia.
Its like everything else in life, if people are prepared to pay for quality they don't care about the price.
And yes, Nokia did flood the market (with sh*t models) to sell more phones but also to reach the developing counties.

Price wars aren't something that nay manufacturer really wants to get into because it means lower profits and it also means that quality becomes ever mor eimportant. Prices can only go so low, even for Nokia, and eventually customers start comparing the quality of the products on offer, not just the price.
There was quite a spirited debate on this sort of thing not all that long ago in

i dont think se can be immune from or survive the competition even if it tries to hide behind the "high-end" segment. personally i don't even think that SE is that good in the high-end segment.
everyone keep touting P** series as the ultimate phone. 2 years ago maybe. but now, put it side by side with a O2 MiniXDAII, 7710, Moto A780 or other Window Mobile, the P** looks very mediocre indeed. P** would not help SE much because of its low volume sales.
how about K700 / S700? For all we know, once the initial euphoria (created by SE fans) died down, SE was forced to reduce the prices drastically just to stay in competition.

From a recent article, Samsung actually made a lost in earning in year 2004. This was due to selling their phones at a lower price in order to complete with nokia. I dun think SE was that forced to reduce the price of the phone because the initial euphoria (created by SE fans) died down but rather it was a trend set by the rest of the makers to sell their phones cheaper.

well se are expected to announce some finacial results tomorrow and within that will be sales figures. so i guess we will see if nokias price cuts have affected se sales and profit or if they have managed to stay clear as scotboyuk and others have suggested by trying to define themselves as high end

The MAIN reason I picked the k700 over a nokia (proabaly 6230) is that sony has the ability to sms in Chinese, WHILE IN ENGLISH MODE. Very convenient if you are bilingual....Nokia does not offer this feature.
