> W800 not so great anymore?
Bookmark topic
4 GB memory and the headphone jack are the top features for the N91 (IMO). these are features that SE can easily integrate into their next phones.
and for the W800 don't forget about the 30 hour MP3/flight-mode. the N91 specs say 3-4 hours talk time.. so how long for playing music then?
as i stated in other posts, i like both of these phones - neither one is perfect so i'm not going to say "i'm gettin' this phone!" until they are out for a while.

just carry out W31s and Nokia would shut up for once! That's what I call a killer that none of Nokia's phone could handle.(Or even upcoming SE's phone itself)

What do you mean now what. The W800 is not a competitor to the Nokia phone.

i can't believe you guys are trying to make an argument for the relative merits of two handsets which are so far out of each other's league it's not funny.
n91 is a 3g smartphone while w800 is a 2.5g standard phone. besides the fact they share a little functionality, these two phones essentially have nothing in common. they will not be competing for the same market.
the size of n90 and 91 won't make a bit of difference since they only have to compete with other 3g handsetes. as long as they are smaller than the average laptop it won't matter. they will likely wipe the floor with everything we already know about at the high end of 3g-land, largely because they redefine "high end".
the main competition w8 will face is its twin k750, but nothing else really competes with it directly as yet. the fabled motorola ipod may change that if it ever sees the light of day. n90 might be considered a competitor if it wasn't 3g or symbian, and the n91 release is so far away that w8 will already have an established market presence.
the main driver on these phones, except among technophiles, will as always be price - and i don't necessarily mean outright. it will depend on how big a subsidy both

and nokia are willing to give the providers, and on how much hutchinson remain intent on screwing down prices. outright price is only half the equation, since plan pricing doesn't always match up.
the other thing of course is market attitude. a lot of people aren't intersted in the suped-up uberphones simply because they see them as complex, and get confused and intimidated by the number of features. just because a product does everything doesn't mean you necessarily want it to.

@aquila2
i should have added that NOKIAs devalue a lot faster then SE in my country...lol. I think the w800 would not be faced out right away. take 6630 for example. after the "hype" (or not) about the phone, about 4-5 mos. later, 6680 comes out. NOKIA is more of a fashion trend. SE is more of a classic. If you want to keep a nokia phone, change every 6 months (if you're a gadget freak). If you plan to keep SE, you can change every year or a year and a half.
@gelfen
Very well said.

i agree with most of what you say, and yes these phones (N91 and W800) are for different customers. but both phones are marketed as a "music phone". so why shouldn't they be compared at least from that viewpoint?

I agree with gelfen, and with you to numnums
Sure you can compare them on functions as musicphones, thats not the problem, the problem is that for some odd reason, most people dont just compare the functions, but immediately jump to the conclusion that N91 will kill all sales for W800, and thats just nonsense, since they are based in very different customersegments.
The pricedifference alone is so big, that its like comparing a W800 with a N3510i. Lots of people dont want to spend 750 euros, but are perfectly happy with the pricetag of the W800, lots of people dont find it to be a problem that the W800 doesnt have a 4gb harddrive, but are more than happy with the 512mb MSD and the option to buy an extra 512/1024 mb, lots of people dont want a phone/musicplayer as big and heavy as the N91, lots of people dont think N91 looks good, or dont like the unegonomic keypad.
In short theres nothing wrong in comparing them from a technical point of view, but they are not direct competitors as such, they are to different for that and I definately dont see N91 killing sales of W800.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't in review of K750 and W800 mentioned that they can support up to 2gb MSDP. And I am thinking about the 4 gigs in a phone, well it might just lag a bit.

I'm going to have to agree with gelfen & numb. I'd be stunned if I ever had a customer who came into the store torn between the N91 or the w800i!!! I just don't see it ever happening for the reasons they have already given. In all honesty with the prices quoted for the N91 so far, if there is much serious interest after the first couple of weeks (by then all the gadget freaks will have one

) then I would be taken aback. It's just too expensive to have any kind of mass appeal. Very very few customers are willing to pay for a handset on a contract (people on here arn't normal customers), they expect it to be free and will quite happily take a lower spec phone if need be more often than not, so specs won't sell it on it's own. It'll need to be very agressively priced, which isn't one of nokia's strongest points.
As an example I'll use the 7610. Loads of hype about it and on paper rightly so, it's a great phone. But after watching a couple of mates buy them and walk away disappointed (it doesn't play mp3s in stereo!!! come on nokia thats just a silly oversight) then judging a phone purely on it's paper merits is just silly. Sure the n91 looks fantastic on paper, but in reality it could be horrible to use due to slow buggy software, or they missed something essential. Alternatively it could live upto the hype and be great. Lets just wait until the actual phone appears and see what nokia have done with said specs, instead of speculating what they might do.
