I got a Ericsson SH888, when I start it without a sim-card it says SCANNER, when I start it with the sim-card it only say SCANNER at the beginning, could it be a SH888 TEMS?

I found it in the menu that it is a genuine TEMS, what a surprise, I thought it was a regular SH888

@Stolleman:
If I am not mistaken, your T68 prototype belonged to Communication Research Labs Sweden AB. Also, check PM.

@Collector
That could be the story, the T68 was one of few prototypes and Ericsson/Sony Ericsson TEMS I bought from a guy that got it from another guy who could have worked with some testing, the seller didn't remember.

Here is a R520m TU2 i pretty good condition from the same parcel as T68 prototype so the story behind it is the same.

It arrived with the TEMS antenna but it's no TEMS phone or have the TEMS software, really strange! In the last pic is a close up of the antenna, have anyone seen this antenna before? Why is it purple? for which phone is it ment to be on?

Från is swedish and means From.
mtu = mobile test unit?

The antenna came from a purple R320 TEMS. That means it is a dualband 900/1800MHz antenna. Using this R520 in a 1900MHz network might damage its power amplifier.

Now when you tell me that, of course it belongs to a R320. Now i need a purple R320 TEMS for my antenna
Thank you for the information, I didn't know that. the antenna is now changed to a R520m antenna.

There is only a brown R320 TEMS in my collection and it does have the corresponding antenna. I'll take some pictures of it and its user's guide the next week.

My very first Ericsson phone was a GH688 in 1998. I used it with an ultra-slim NiMH battery, a short antenna and a vibration clip that attached to its system connector. It was a very reliable and durable phone. Unfortunately, I sold it before I could make a picture of it.

In about a year I replaced it with a dual-band SH888, the most reliable phone Ericsson has ever built. Unlike Nokia phones, it was equipped with a real IrDA port. It was truly a professional tool built around a sturdy magnesium frame. There was only one phone I liked more than the SH888 - it was the I888 WORLD. Unfortunately, it was impossible to get it in my country for a reasonable price.

The SH888 then got replaced by a T18s. Nice, small phone, with embedded vibra-motor and with voice recognition capability. I liked it a lot, but its frame was made of plastic, and the circuitry was quite obsolete. It had to be replaced by something better.

In 2000 the T28s appeared. Ultra slim body, with Li-Pol battery and a magnesium frame. The. Perfect. Phone.
Unfortunately, after several months it stopped working - its power amplifier failed and the phone could not be turned on anymore. I bought it unoficially, so I could not send it for a repair.

So I went directly to Ericsson and bought a stone purple R320s for a full price. Replaced the slim battery by an ultra-slim one from the T28. This was the most feature packed phone to that date and in a very nice, timeless design.

But then the R520m and T36m were announced. Got to have the T36m. Unfortunately it was cancelled and I had to buy the R520m instead which turned to be even better phone than the T39m (a replacement for T36m). I consider the R520m to be the best Ericsson phone according to my own needs. I still own that R520m (since 2001). It has the first place in my collection (among standard phones)...
