My digital box is on the blink, the picture is ok but the sound is all crackly, in fact its worse i just get that "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" noise. Ive waggled wires, thumped it, done everything but....

There's probably loose connections inside or the audio section of your box is damaged -- take it to a service shop.

else,check the incoming audio transmission...
could be some connection problem as blackspot said.

@meths try your digibox on your folks TV - it could be the signal strength is not enough from your ariel. You may need a booster (fit as close to the ariel as possible) or a bigger ariel.
