wow, that's great to still see enthusiasts these days

.
May I ask you how much battery life you got with the new batteries?
What other Ericsson phones do you own?

Hi Marius, I left the battery on the charger (it has five Sanyo Eneloop 2000mAh Ni-Mh cells) for 12 hours, although I later found out that they should be left on the charger for 15 hours at least, in order to be fully charged. I usually switch my mobile phone from 9/10:00AM to 2:00PM, and then I turn it on again at 3:00PM until 10:00PM.
The battery life seems to be quite good, although the new cells sometimes make the battery indicator go "crazy" sometimes, since it goes down to 2 and then it goes back to 4, but it's not a problem, at least the cells are new and the battery will have a decent duration. What leaves me a bit disappointed is the volume of the ringtone: while my Microtac 7500 has a very loud ringtone, the GH172 is... Meh. But I can live with that, I guess, 'cause using the 172 as a daily phone is a bit like using the "Dynatac" of GSMs!
In my collection I also have an Ericsson GA318, which used to be my daily mobile phone from 2005 to 2010, when I was "forced" to switch to an iPhone 2G that was given to me as a gift.
I still have the 318, including the original charger and an aftermarket one, but the NO key lost a bit its sensitivity and it would require a cleanup of the key contacts in order to work well again. I have no idea how to open that phone but if someday I manage to do it, I will be able to use that one as well someday. If everything goes well, someday I might also receive a rare Ericsson ET337, a rebranded GH337 for the Italian market, branded with the former state phone provider SIP. The ET337, unlike the GH counterpart, looks more like a blend between the GH337 and the EH237, due to its rubber white keypad.
In the past I used to have a T18 and a GF768 as well. The T18 was my first mobile phone back in 2003, and the GF768 my second one. Both worked very well, although the T18 was sold many years ago and the GF stopped working without a reason, and was thrown away when I moved to a new house.

Nice phone, you should try to test it with a UMTS SIM, it might work, since it's a 3G only phone and obviously doesn't support GSM SIM cards. In the meantime I have fixed the "crazy battery indicator" issue on my GH172 by just cleaning the contacts of the phone and yesterday the indicator stayed permanently on 4. When I switched it on in the morning, the indicator showed 3. I guess that the battery life with the new cells is 2-3 days. We will see... And hopefully, I hope to resurrect the two D2-branded 172 I'll receive tomorrow.

Hi friends, I've received the two GH172s in the morning. Here they are! (Pictures taken by the seller)
Both handsets turn on and work, but the one with the intact beltclip has problems at finding the network and holding the signal. Most of the time it doesn't make calls nor receives them so I guess that the RF unit of the phone is damaged. The one with the broken beltclip works perfectly and unlike the previous one with the broken SIM lock, it has a very loud ringtone. I still have to test the two batteries to see if they hold a charge or not, but I will do it in the next days.
Now I have to remove the broken clip and the superglue used to keep it in place, it will be tricky as I don't want to scratch the phone, but at least it will look neater without that broken thing, and I will put a NOS GH172 beltclip I already have.
Perhaps I might sell the other two someday.
EDIT: I also forgot to say that the regenerated battery lasted two days with a 15 hours of charge. I've calculated the charging times of the battery and it should be 12 hours and 50 minutes. So, yesterday I put the battery on the charger and left it for that amount of time. Unlike before, when I put the battery into the phone, the voltage indicator showed 7 volts instead of 6,3 volts. Now that I finally have a working (and reliable) 172, I'm a very happy bunny. Waitin' for the ET337 now!

Absolutely spectacular phone. Does he have other phones? what I could be missing from my collection

, like GH 172/ 174 that Enzo has 3 of them already
Well, of you have a service provider that only works on a 3G/UMTS phone only, we have DIGI from RDS/RCS. That does not have signal on a 2G phone, like a T39m or regular R520m.
