If the curtain is supposed to be evenly coloured (the white areas), the picture is really terrible.

Here is the reply I have recieved from Sony on the green tint problem, this is after they told me to update to the latest firmware.

We are sorry to hear about the problems which you are experiencing with your Sony Ericsson P1i.

If you have tryed the software update on your handset and it was unsuccessful it does mean that you may have a hardware fault on your handset. Therefore we would recommend that you contact one of our service centres to arrange for your handset to be checked by one of our service engineers.

What utter rubbish. I'm sure Sony don't want every P1i owner to send their phones in! As far as I'm aware, every owner has this problem.

Hello Folks,

After seeing two firmwares come out and still no solution to this problem, I decided to just take the plunge. I called up SE this morning and told them about my problem and requested an RMA. If anyone has already done this please let me know if the results were positive. Ironically, the lady I was speaking to also had a P1i and I asked her about this. She said she hadn't noticed this problem on her phone. So I guess she either got a good one or hasn't looked carefully enough. In anycase, when I get the RMA paperwork, I'll send it in and see if it gets fixed when it comes back. If it does get fixed I'll be sure to tell you guys!.

EDIT: Just got the RMA paperwork. Apparently it takes 10 days to repair or replace the phone. We'll see how that goes!!!

To add to this, I had to send my phone back because of speaker issues and with that I also mentioned the green tint. They replaced both the camera and the speaker and I must say the green tint is atleast reduced, find it quite hard to spot (if I can spot it even).

I'll post some pics soon so you can look at it yourselves but either the replacement or the firmware upgrade seem to really have helped (and the speaker issue is over as well).

The green tint is an hardware defect.
I've done a lot of testing last night and I after a lot of photos and photoshopping, I can confirm it.
The general result is an over-exposure of greens on the right side of the photo and to a less extent magenta on the center-left.
To me the worst problem of all, is the amount of sharpening+compression that even in at best quality SE imposed to the saved picture.

Sony Ericcson: Next time do us a favor: Call a photographer to fine tune the sharpening and compression, ok?
