SE subsumed Ericsson's market, isn't it obvious. That doesn't mean that nothing has changed though, and SE market share hasn't gone backwards relative to ericsson, so what's your point?

SE (and Ericsson) have always had a market lead in technology.

Nokia is not an innovative manufacturer. They have reliable handsets yes, but rely on having such a vast array of basic phones that there is something for everyone, trouble is you need 5 Nokias just to get the features you get in one SE phone. (okay I'm exaggerating but my point holds)

They appear innovative because of the interesting form factors they produce, but this is a very limited approach to innovation, aimed at saturating the mass market It's just a marketing ploy (but one that works obviously). I'd rather SE's technical innovation over Nokia's style innovations.

However, I have to agree that if SE was to take the No 1 MARKET SHARE position they would need to do a lot of work to beat Nokia.

But just because a company sells the most phones, doesn't make them "global leader in mobile phone solutions". SE always seem to jump the gun on other OEMs when it comes to technical innovation. The current phones are still achieving that benchmark: Music phone (that can be used when the phone is turned off), Memory capacity, auto focus camera, and other examples.

I am never surprised with new Nokias. They are just phones, but SE new phones are always exciting and bring new features to the market.

People seem to forget that SE is a very young company when compared with competition...when we compare what it is now with 4 years ago evolution is remarkable. As long their economic and finantial condition is enough for keeping launching kick ass products like t68, t610, k700, w800 im fine with it, they dont need to be #1

my point was his agruement was weak...
here is my post

all you SE lovers are funny...

look at the numbers SE is pretty much last in the game... losing to freakin LG... if they can't beat LG what makes you think they can even challenge nokia.... hahaahahhah

anyways i love SE products ..everything about them.. except for not have user defined SMS tones.. (but that's suppose to changed)

but the reality is they're WAY behind in the market and not churning handsets fast/aggressive enough to take the industry by storm.

but then again as long as thier profitable maybe they don't care that much.. remember selling tons of phones doesn't mean you make lots of money. look at nintentdo for example.

i will continue to use SE as long as they contiue to develop quality handsets and so far they haven;t failed me... wish they would speed up with the quadband tech as well..

as you can see i don't disagree with your points that is why i USE SE products

oh, yeah, on re-reading I see where you coming from! My bad.

I agree actually. I mean yes they are a new company, but it's not like they started form scratch. Ericsson has always had strong market share even if not number one or even two. But on the other hand, Sony has also influenced Ericsson, injecting new ideas.

So things are the same, and things have changed. That's life really!

Personally the Sony/Ericsson formation was perfectly in line with Ericsson's marketing strategy. They needed something to compete with the youth orientated Nokia handsets that were very popular, and Sony with it's music industry experience comes along. Perfect Match!

The thing I've noticed, is that Sony playing in the phone market, has helped soften their stand on DRM with regard to MP3 players - aka, the bluetooth music player, and the w800 which both support MP3 (something that would have taken Sony a lot longer to come to on thier own). That'll be a good thing for their market share, so I see both companies as having been strengthened by the SE venture.

one thing is for sure. SE is lightyears behind Nokia/Moto in high-tech smartphone, the most important category in coming years.

If SE cannot even come up with a strong, viable and sellable OS-enabled phone, dont even talk about innovation.

Nokia has 3G+Edge+PTT+Megapixel+smartphone all-in-one pocketable size. SE has nothing that even come close.

I gotta agree with that. Everyone doesn't need a PDA phone. This message was posted from a T230

@blackspot, Shall I?

K750, multitasking; 2MP auto focus cam; 1GB Expansion; mp3,aac, jpeg,gif,wbmp,mp4 and 3gp support; 3D Java; radio; Ir, BT, USB; xHTML browser (a new HTML standard that works in both phone and computer browsers); blah blah freakin' blah.

Small PDA phones (such as the imate) are a compromise of both Phone and PDA. Hence the P800 or XDA style form factor is actually more suitable to a PDA phone than candybar or clamshell (till the tech gets better anyway).

@mib1800, saying SE is light years behind is a little short sighted

hahahahahahaha, yes you were spot on blackspot!!

I chose my K700i over every single smart phone that was on then market when the K700i came out and they ALL had some feature missing that the K700i did have. In the end I decided on the K700i, simply because it had more features in one handset, than any smart phone I looked at. I wanted a smart phone, but I had to settle for the K700i because it had more of what I wanted. I glad I settled, because I would still rather it than any smart phone on the market EVEN NOW, six months later.

Unless I'm actually posting to The Time Travel Institute, I think the K700 (and S700 more so) qualifies as a current (and comparable) phone.

I use my phone for business first, play with it second. My business partner has an XDA, from all the problems he has had with it locking up and needing to be master reset, and returned to OEM. He can keep those problems!

@phsychomantis, sorry, but no phone is "uncomparable". Every phone I have looked at has another with similar features.

Oh yeah except SE, they seem to have all the features in one, no other phone does that
