I'm gonna hold back for the first price drop(no price announce yet) and see what lie the competition is. My xbox will keep me happy for a while yet.

it looks like 2006 will be the year of the average-looking console, with a design faux-pas for each of the manufacturers (ms, sony, nintendo).
latest news is 360 will be backwards compatible, but not with all titles (mainly the volume-selling Live enabled games).

Erm it looks liek a bit of a sanitary pad design.. maybe it should have wings?
Aparently the rumour is its called The 360 because Xbox2 would make it sound like it was behind the competition (Playstation 3 etc).. Least i think thats what was posted on esato

yeah, that's the rumour.
while probably true to a certain extent, it's probably "officially" meant to relate to the device (theoretically) being used as a hub for all your home entertainment requirements, as part of a home network and as an online portal (i.e. 360 degree coverage) - or some other marketing drivel.
i think i'm going to hold off and wait until both the ps3 and x360 are available before i make my choice, so i can compare performance side by side and - most importantly - see what games are available.
i'll also be interested to see if ms try to beef up the specs a bit prior to launch.

@ Gigs interesting theory, but the fact of the matter is Microsoft are behind the competition, as the X360 is only their second games machine, anyway IMHO Xbox 2 would have sounded too much like they were copying Sonys PS2, i like the sound of Xbox 360 much better.
