The sponge is an idea but it would look quite ugly stuck to the phone. Not only that but it wouldn't stop the case cracking under a lot of pressure.
If you have strips of metal underneath the plastic then it will not be able to snap.
Just need to find a piece of metal that'd fit..

P910's keypad has been redesigned so it doesn't make contact right on the frame of the screen, it makes contact on the phones outer casing, which is quite strong. I shouldn't worry about cracking your P910's case anytime soon

You can see by this image that where the P900 stops are in line with the Dark inner section of the case, the P910 with it's wider keypad is in line with the silver outer case.

The same thing happedne to my phone and it really pisses me off. P900 was the most expensive phone on the market when I bought it, but it still has giant flaws like this

But in all fairness they rectified it in the P910, and im sure they didn't sit there slamming a flip shut all day long to see if the frame cracked..
If you're gentle enough with it then you should have no problem, after all, just about every phone would suffer some sort of damage under pressure..

I just had the same problem yesterday after using my p900 for 12 months, it is a small part of the dark layer that came off.
I have never slammed my phone's flip, I always keep it on a safe place,
When I go to vacation, on weekends I use my alternate T90 just switching the GSM card, probably thats why mine lasted longer than many of yours.
I was searching the net because I knew this was not normal, and came accross this topic. Most of the damage (as far as I can see 100s of users are complaining here) is on the LEFT side, beneath the OK button. Obviously for someone who keeps keypad locked (like I do), "OK" and "*" are the most used buttons. It is without any doubt that the frame underneath the OK button adjacsent to the LCD screen is not produced/designed stong enough to support the regular usage pressure.
And clearly the cost of a product recall would hurt SE profits, they try to keep ignoring, duck and wait for the sold P900 wear off their 2 year limited warranty.
For the victims who are lucky to still have the warranty time unexpired we should find a Consumer Rights, complain, open a petition to force SE to recall these P900 s and fix it or replace it.
Regards,
Burak

i dont think its to do with slamming shut. the noise when it springs shut is the buttons rattling, and the spring is not that harsh. i have killed my p900 twice, once having it my pocket whilst leaning on a pool table. and the second time by bumping into the corner of a desk with it in my pocket. the biggest gripe i have is that the case supplied is horizontal ( cant stand that ) and it does not have a belt LOOP, just a clip which can fall off your belt. i have yet to find a vertical case with a belt loop, bear in mind that you have to be able to get it out without pressing the jogdial. the canvas case i got with my R380 was spot on, if only a P900 one was available. all of which is why its in my pocket in the first place.

Stop whinging and get a P910i

All your problems will dissapear!
I had a P900 for 12 months and i was quite rough with it, but i never broke the sides of the screen.
I have a P910 now, and it's just great! The extra memory and bigger keys make it worth it.
Just waiting for the next big innovative handset from SE to come out.. then it's bye bye Pxxx series!
