from CNET Australia

Microsoft has unveiled pricing for the upcoming Xbox 360. The next generation console will come in two flavours - a basic 'core' system and a bundle which includes a 20GB hard drive.

The Xbox 360 Core System will sell for US$299.99 / 299.99 euros.
The upgrade Premium Edition will retail for US$399.99 / 399.99 euros.

The Xbox 360 Core package, which will not be backwards compatible with current Xbox games, will include:
Xbox 360 console
Xbox 360 wired controller
Xbox 360 faceplate
Xbox 360 standard AV cable
Buyers of the Xbox360 Core package will need to buy a hard drive to make the system play current Xbox games, a Microsoft spokesman said.

Microsoft is still aiming for an early 2006 release for the Xbox 360 in Australia, with a pre-Christmas 2005 date set for North America, Europe and Japan.

Surely the Sony PS3 wont be able to come close to the pricing of the 360's top specced variant, let alone the ultra cheap version. However going for that ultra cheap option will cost you dearly in the end. Sony will have to do something pretty special for me to even consider buying their new machine.

Lol yeah, the price is rather good. I'm still holding back on a launch model though. Sony only really have to swallow their pride(do they have any anyway) and drop the blu ray drive and they will have a more competitively priced console, mind you ms will most likely drop the 360 price. if ms follow what sony did on the xbox release, they will drop the price by almost $100 within a week of the ps3 hitting shelves.

pls.... u guys... u cant compare XBox360 and PS3. They do not go hand in hand in the category of, Next Generation console. Yes the XBox360 IS the next generation console, BUT when ur talking about PS3, UR talking about the NEXT Next generation console, Just think of it, as an Early Future gaming console... PS3 is far beyond XBox360. And the price on PS3 will be well spend on the user.

With the 360 core system you will still be able to buy the hard drive if you choose also why have Blu ray disc when games now dont even use half of the dvd 9 disc plus with the compressions there doing in the graphics i dont think Ps3 will ever come close to using the blu ray near Capacity........In graphics it's how the game is designed ps3 will probaly never come close to using the full power of it's unit just the same for Xbox...............It will be xbox for me 1 for it's graphics which will be very nice and 2 for the Xbox live.............

have you guys seen the power of the PS3 during actual game play?? well here it is, I8. Its a 1st person shooter... really impressive!!! Considering the amount of animated 3d characters in a go... dust, blood, flying objects from shooting is so pure!! click download from the link, and see fer urself... I've seen XBox360, both platform are equally amazing!! However XBox360 loss to the power if having animated 3D objects in a single arena.. maybe thats the reason PS3 uses 58GB Blue-Ray disk...
