Meh, the iPhone's crap.

Nooo. The music player is not crap. It should be emulated by the other phone companies in fact,including most of all
The browser is great. The design is superb.
Otherwise the iPhone stinks.
Only in America is the iPhone a good phone.
No Bluetooth far worse no A2DP to listen that good music player on. No expandable memory and far worse in my opinion is the fact that Apple seems to want to keep full control of their products even after one pays exorbitantly high prices for their products. Why the heck one should have a phone locked even after paying full price and being locked to a contract I cannot understand. That alone kills the rest experiences with the iPhone.
However for a first foray into the phone business Apple did well. They made such mundane things as quad band which

seems not to get, and good browser as routine.
Most of all they are highly committed to costumer service/loyalty. This is where

fails terribly and thus the main crux of this thread.

has lost me.I am just waiting for the N95 8GB to come down from the sky then wham!
I am impressed at first glance at the Experia but I have to "EXPERIENCE" the Experia to give

a chance.

Well actually as it happens the Muisc player in the iPhone, iPods and even the touch are in a different league to a Walkman Player this idea the Walkman Player is so wonderful is just not supported by the facts only by SE fan boys that won't to believe this.
The other poster is also correct Bluetooth is only really good for a headset or transferring files, A2DP is far to immature and lack's bandwidth to give results anywhere near as good as a wired solution for Music, sorry but it is currently a gimmick and nothing more.
I also wouldn't consider a iPhone yet as it's missing 3G/HSDPA for fast data but you need to realise just like the N series the iPhone isn't trying to be a business smartphone it's a Multimedia device and an excellent one at that.

I read somewhere last week that the iPhone has captured 28% of the smartphone market in the US and that Apple is gearing up to compete more with RIM in this prospect so I do believe that it is more than a multimedia device.
Still I say that it is only in the US that the iPhone is a great phone.

I've personally listened to both ipod and walkman music players and to say that ipod is significantly better than SE walkman players is completely false.
There are many many references by audiophiles on the net saying that ipod audio quality is no better and often worse than other quality Music players on the market. It's a myth that ipod audio quality is some sort of high quality benchmark.
It's also a myth that audio quality of Walkman players is poor. If you use high quality bitrates the quality is excellent. If you use low quality bitrates, as many people do because they want to fit 3000 songs on their 1GB memory card, then of course it will sound like crap.
Don't blame the faith in the quality of SE's walkman players on "fanboy" delusions. It's based on solid listening experience not blind fanboyism.
The fact is neither ipod nor SE offer high true "hi-fi" quality audio, but on the same token, both offer very listenable and still good quality audio. It's certainly unwarranted to claim that ipod audio is "in a different league" to SE walkman players.

@Max
Mine is not some wild claim i have tried a W950 when it was alreday stable and improved and a W880 when they were launched as was looking into getting a good Music phone.
My music is 256kbps AAC which can not be considered as low bit rates and the SE Walkman phones were lacking not only in volume but much more crucially the separation and sound stage where lacking and that was compared to just a Nokia device.
My iPod blows the Nokia phones out of water by quite some margin to, maybe i am lucky as have a 5.5 Gen iPod that apparently has the best sound of all but IMHO no phone gets close to a good dedicated player and sorry but i don't really rate the Sony MP3 as being great either. Sony like SE now a days rely to much on thier reputation and good marketing and don't deliver fully with thier goods IMO.
If the Walkman phones are so great how and why are there so many threads on this forum with problems and dissatisfaction from users then?

because everyone bitches when they have a problem but never says a thing when things work fine.
99.999% of the bad flack SE walkman players get is simply because the volume is not sufficient to make your ears bleed. Since when is this a quality issue? But people love to complain so they fill the forums with their moaning.
Personally I don't find it a problem, there is more than enough volume and anyone who wants to damage their ears may be disappointed, but I use my phone for music in traffic, on the train and various other noisy environments and have never found the volume too low. (which incidently can be improved with modded drivers in any case)
Those people who rubbish the Walkman Players are often the same people who brag about how good AAC+ is because they can put more music on their memory card at the same "quality" as MP3's of a higher bitrate (AAC+ is a good codec for low bitrates, but it's still undeniably low bitrate - no matter which way you peg it compression kills quality). They are also the people who complain about lack of megabass! I mean who cares about megabass? Again how is this a quality issue?
I'll accept one thing, the consistancy between SE phones is not there. The W950 uses software (not hardware) decoding, and yes it's not as good as the non-smartphone walkmen. The W880 drivers aren't the best out there either (can be fixed with modded audio drivers). So maybe your experience has biased you towards SE music phones generally.
You are certainly right about you ipod, the 5.5 is the only ipod I've seen consistantly score high ratings in online comparisons of MP3 player audio quality. Other ipods generally fall in the middle.
btw, re: Sony, try the latest Sony MP3 players. They are much better. For one, they don't use ATRAC, which is a very hollow codec (especially at the default bitrates). Trouble with comparing Sony atrac music players with other units is the fact they use ATRAC, which is like comparing apples and oranges. Sony mistakenly claimed that ATRACPlus 48Kbps was equivalent to 128Kbps MP3, which is a joke tbh. Listen to a 256Kbps MP3 on the latest Sony MP3 player, you should be surprised.

Eh, I guess so...
On a side note, if you compare Walkman player v3.0 to the iPod player in the iPhone, you'll see that the walkman player has both greater functionality and more eye-candy than the one found in the iPhone.

@NightBalde
When it come to listening to Music all that counts is the quality and sound stage produced whilst the rest may be pretty it is all far less important then the first two things. Who cares what it looks like as you don't watch Music you listen to it.
@Max
It wasn't a lack of level of volume as to making your ears bleed it was to soft to be hard clearly and the quality wasn't there either.

Oh, come on, you're exaggerating! I've got a K810 and the HBH-DS980 and the sound quality is terrific! In fact, I can't imagine how it could be much better... every tone is rendered accurately and the sound depth is pretty good. Fully satisfies my needs.
