You do like a bit of controversy, don't you?
Old Scotty might SOUND a bit old-fashioned, but I don't think his membership of this forum and comments therein show him to be "uncomfortable with the pace"
If we're talking convergence, there is surely no better example of an all-round handset (yes, I know I'm in danger of starting this off again!) than the
P910i. Though, I am generally inclined to agree (again, it's becoming a habit
) with scotsboy that consumers are much more resistant to change than you realise, and having worked in the industry, selling to both Joe Bloggs consumers and corporates, I think I have a reasonable idea. Year-on-year growth in uptake of Series 60 is not representative for two reasons:
Symbian is developing too fast and changing at such a rate that gauging such a young technology in this way is always going to reveal exponential growth, and
There are far more Series 60 devices available than UIQ devices, AT THE MOMENT, though this should not be a surprise, Nokia has been market-flooding for years.
At the end of the day, this is all very subjective, and the argument has probably gone as far as it can because of this, without getting silly, but for me,
will always stand for innovation, albeit possibly in a niche market, whereas Nokia will always represent market-share-grabbing, mass-market laziness.
But hey, it's all a matter of opinion!

I think 6600 should be considered as base plataform, let's see how it evolves, but to be sincere, it looks attractive enough to me.

i like the T610 design. the way SE made the squarish block looked so good was indeed a feat in itself. K700 is OK but not too appealing because of the too greyish color/design.
when i bought the 6600 (12 months ago), i shortlisted the T610 also. P800 nearly made to shortlist but it was just too big/heavy. (You see, SE do hv appeal). P900 was just out then but the price was unbelievable.
At that time, i hv no idea what a smartphone was. I bought the 6600 because it has a card slot and video recording. Now I don't think i can go back to normal phone. I'm still using the 6600 and in terms of functionality it is still as good as any of the newer ones. I hv a 512Mb card stuffed with apps, games and videos.

btw 6600 design is not my 1st choice. T610 was.
On the tech side, 6600 is the reference smartphone for Nokia. The only major diff betw newer Series60 and 6600 is the camera. The rest are just software tweaking.

@mib1800, Gonna try that 6600, I want to upgrade to a smartphone, but as you say P900/910 price is way high, and S700 won't be available until July next year. BTW my phone company is offering me the 6600 for less than half the price of a P9.

why that long mate? Maybe by that time the SE S700 will already be phased-out in Europe and Asia
