Mine backs up okay, but experience has shown me that when you restore some backups it can still fail. Obviously the tool won't tell you why so you can fix things! Oh no, that would be far too clever.

Fortunately, all of the things you 'tick' are saved as separate archives, so you can usually restore MOST of the data (and lose settings, contacts, bookmarks or something) but the backup tool isn't something you should totally rely on.

This is on any S60 device by the way. My advice would be to have a backup of your contacts, synchronise as much data as you can over the air or via the PC/Mac and keep copies of the original .SIS files to reinstall if it all goes wrong.

There's also the thought that following a firmware update, it can be better to start afresh and reinstall everything anyway. When the Satio update comes out, I expect I will start from scratch and just restore the contacts/appointments and reinstall the key apps I use.

So besides problem with Wi-Fi, the media player, the web browser, slow menus, poor camera images - it's all absolutely fine.

Yeah I was just about to say that. A plus $500 phone shouldn't have ANY major bugs, let alone a litany of so many. This phone ranks #2 behind the disaster that was UIQ 3 and the P990. What a waste because it looks so good physically. Then again, so did the prom queen from high school....

You're wrong. Previous "disasters" have been just that, because the problems those "disasters" typically illustrated were across the entire product line.

Where as you have hundreds of thousands of satisfied Satio owners worldwide with no problems. Just like me.

Ive got about 5 threads bookmarked now where basically people are just slagging the Satio off. To be honest, they're getting very boring !

Poor camera images? Guess its more the fault of the man behind the camera than the camera itself. What i see around me are all excellent pictures.

Guess you never really used the N97 in its launch avatar. That was more buggy than a house full of termites.

You've probably never experienced the joy of owning an Omnia HD either. Samsung craptastic FW dev team thinks there's only one country on the planet and that's Italy. Imagine having to flash the ROM just to update the firmware that still hasn't gotten everything sorted out.

I've had the pleasure (!) of forking out $600 for both phones and was treated to a royal course of el-bugginess.

Exactly, people wont remember but when i posted pictures back in 2005 in the K750i post a picture thread people were posting some terrible pictures. Mine were excellent, and people said how fantastic they were.

The Satio is the same except stupid SE released the phone in autumn here in the UK, therefore all my pictures are dull, boring and because im in work 6 days per week during daylight hours ive nothing to use the 12mp camera to shoot anything decent.

More annoying in someone posting in the Satio pictures thread that the pictures are downscaled fit in the forum, which gives a false sense of quality. But how the hell can you tell how good an image is when its resolution is many times higher than your pc's desktop resolution ? So many stupid comments on Esato these days.

Actually not stupid at all.
For instance these photos (800x600 or whatever) are so small that you could post a picture from some other phones and say it is from Satio. But if you put full size pictures, then you can easily see how is the pixel per pixel quality, what is the noise level,
how big quality print can you expect with this photos, what is the difference in quality comparing to 8mp phones, and so on.

"But how the hell can you tell how good an image is when its resolution is many times higher than your pc's desktop resolution"

You download the picture and then when you want to preview it, the computer automatically extends it to your desktop resolution, there you can see nice preview and you can also zoom in to judge its quality...
simple and useful as that
(and I really think most potential buyers want that)

I agree that looking at a photo at 100% is the only proper way to tell one picture from another. If you downscale any image, it will get rid of a lot of the noise and other artifacts and make everything look a lot better.

Of course, there's an argument for dropping the resolution in the settings menu to something closer to what you actually need. You'll speed up image processing, saving to the memory card, uploading and so on. I'm now taking photos in 9MP mode (for 16:9) but could easily go down even further.
