This whole "advantage" of Arc running Android 2.3 will last for maybe 2 or 3 weeks at the maximum. By April - May all dual core flagships will be released with Android 2.3, and many more mid end phones as well.

So this is barely an "advantage" for

Finally SE is up-to-date with the OS and people still find a reason to complain about how SE will be behind with a version of the OS that hasn't even been released. As it is always pointed out from time to time: people will find a reason to complain. I bet if SE comes up with a dual core phone that will be launched with Honeycomb in May people will still find fault with it.

The Gingerbread in the Arc was never meant to be an advantage but SE's lesson learnt from the X10 and I think it is a lesson learnt very well. Also, the Arc is a very well put all rounder that was never meant to be the highest specced phone, it was more of the X10 upgraded not overhauled.

If someone feels the Arc is inadequate then why not go and buy the LG or the Atrix. Better yet, wait for Samsung and HTC then buy one of those. Yes, it is good to question certain aspects of SE's phones or strategy but to be nitpicking on an up-to-date OS for the sake of complaining is just too excessive.

I didn't like the X10 cause I felt it was half-baked and it was but this Arc is perfect for ME and I'm definitely getting it. I'll wait to see the full list of the goodies the dual core phones bring and take it from there. Like I said before, the Arc is second generation 1ghz processor which is good enough for me and I doubt the first generation dual core processors are going to be well optimized for 'perfect' operation with the OS.

And that is my opinion.

It's ridiculous the way Android fanboys begin moaning and whinging if they don't have the very latest Android version.

It's probably google's fault, although the Android tech bloggers are just as bad - talking up the latest Android before the last one is hardly out of the stable door.

Constant disappointment, whinging and whining. Now people will be crying over not having 2.4 when the number of devices with 2.3 is still minimal. When is all this going to end? Manufacturers don't have the resources to upgrade their handsets to the latest OS every few weeks. Jeez!

I agree 100% with Dups! and goldenface! Way too much whining around here. I think it will be interesting around 3Q when the dust has settled a bit and we should know how these new phones have sold. I guess most of the readers of this Esato forum are a bit "geeky" and look only at the specs, but most normal consumers don't run Linpack or Quadrant tests, they will look at other things like design, how the performance "feels" etc. I've played a bit with the LG 2x last Friday and it wasn't a very attractive package, it looked pretty boring. So I think the Arc will sell well.

You guys seemed to have forgotten the Xperia X10 completely and ignoring it as if it looked like crap. Xperia X10 was the best looking smartphone last year and this year its the Arc.
Winning the smartphone beauty pageant does not unfortunately guarantee runaway success as a few people here seem to believe.
When we look at it, the Arc is the repeat of X10 story. Looks great, hardware wise sub par compared to the other flagships, priced lower than other flagships and positioned more towards the upper mid end market. The only thing that is different fortunately is that atleast this time Arc comes pre loaded with the latest OS version .

A quick check on popularity of flagship Android devices announced so far from Google

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc - 6,220,000 results
Motorola Atrix - 12,800,000 results
LG Optimus 2X - 7,990,000 results

Wait, what? A beauty pageant wont, yet the number of Google search results will?

Um, yer, ok...

ps. Arc has A LOT more total hits on GSMArena compared to Atrix/2x. What's ya point?

Dont think DUO=Dual CORE.. Should be mini2 only.. I was really hoping NEO means something new but As mentioned by techradar NEO=vivaz2 so I guess duo means mini2...
It would be so cool if neo was some cool new device(hopefully not vivaz2) and duo for dual core.. Fingers crossed lets see what happene's ..

I can't agree with you here mate. Sometimes the latest doesn't mean the best. I won't deny that when the X10 was out with 1.6 and the others had 2.0/2.1, were doing it wrong. But regardless they were, the X10 sold quite well. And it sold well because of what?

So, my point is that the latest OS version won't mean the satisfaction to the buyers.

At least that's what I think

Yeah, that is a funny post, like hits mean more sales

There are issues of availability, price and marketing.
