the easiest (or ungentleman) way out of a debate is to tell the other party to piss off.

based on your argument what does a K750 have that it is so irresistable?

design? imo, K750 looks so plain and dull with its blackish mono-block recycled design from T610. So if you use look/design as a criteria, then surely K750 dont have it.

Design is a personal choice, your opinion on the design of the K750 is irrelevent in the grand scheme of things. Not every customer will like every product a company produces; just as I happen to think most Nokias look like thye belong in a nursery, I also happen to think that Porsche produce rather vulgar cars, it doesn't stop either of them selling well.

Quote:
capability/functionality? u say people do not base their buying on a point to point comparison. So if this is the case, K750 has no advantage because people are not too bother with 2MP camera or the so-called advanced functionality in K750.

Really? As far as one can judge from current trends the major factors influencing customers when purchasing a new mobile phone , besides basic features, are it's capability to be able to take pictures, possibly play music; size and battery life. It would then seem to me that the K750 has a very real advantage since it does well in each category.

Quote:
reputation? like u say people buy Nokia by default so if this is the case K750 has lost even before battle has begun.

Once again you take a comment out of context. Nokia is the default option, but that doesn't mean to say that everyone has to take it. Vanilla is the standard flavour of ice cream, yet many people choose otherwise.

Quote:
if buying public is not discerning, then Nokia would have won by default and no matter how hard SE tries, it will still be laggard. i, for one is not so naive to believe this.

Once again you twist. What is this notion of 'winning' you keep espousing? Each manufacturer sells its products, they ar enot trying to win a prize, they are trying to sell as many units as posisble. When you have large groups of customers with little money or little interest in any feature beyond textin and you have a brand name that they know, they are more likely to pick that brand.

Quote:
of all your argument, i think u forgot a very important third factor (after design and price): greed. all being equal, the one with more functions win.

If that were true then everyone should have a PDA style smartphone that act as mini-computers. Funnily enough everyone doesn't, due to the fact that most people really don't care about advanced smartphone features.

Quote:
so if design and price being the same to a buyer, s60 have a great advantage because Nokia can easily throws in more functionalities to a s60.

You seme to be under the permanent misconception that customers want those extra functions. The majority of customers do not, they simply want a mobile phone, perhaps with a few nice additional features such as music playback or a camera. You could cram a super-computer into a mobile phone and the majority of customers still wouldn't buy it.

What possible use for a smartphone does an 8 year old child have? Or an elederly woman looking to be able to keep in touch with her family? Is it likely that a binman will need the ability to create pie charts on his mobile? Does a shop assistant need to be able to fax someone in the middle of the high street?

Give customers what they want; easy to use mobiles with features they actually want.

But what is the point of comparing phones from two different categories? What does that prove?

i do get your point but people buy with cash and there eyes. you maybe right but most buyers dont look and its a smartphone its not a smartphone.
they walk into a shop with x amount of pounds to spend and are faced with options. i think that nokia is just better a communitcating a phone s ablity to its customers and making them feel they need the features.
to often se over complicate things and consumers get lost in the tech arguement.
i dont belive that se has to challenge nokia but over the next few years they cant stay in position 6 as it will hurt there long term ablity to survive. imho they need to but getting to at least 4 with the ablity to be in touching distance of samsung and motorola.
i dont think sony formed a partnership/takeover with ericsson to say a no6. sony like to be leaders and will want to try to get to a postion of at least top 3, if they dont i could see them trying to form partnerships with another company ie samsung to achieve there goals

I think SE are selling really well.

I don't agree that SE don't know how to sell phones. SE is a relatively young European company who are NUMBER 2 in Western Europe. The only reason SE are not selling as much as Nokia and Siemens the others are better established and have had a head start. LG and Samsung probably do brilliant on their own turf as well(the far east). SE is only just now cracking the huge Chinese and Indian markets and I do very firmly believe that they will do very well once they get up and running. For gods sake give them a chance!

However, getting back on topic. Just because you sell more doesn't mean your handset is best and if I read that one more time I will scream.

In my opinion, Bang & Olufsen make lovely TVs. They dont sell by the bucket load. But I would rather have one of them than one off the shelf in Argos!!

ALL companies are able to put ALL available technologies in their handsets, 3G, MP cams, Video, Edge, Smartphone technology, streaming, the whole shebang. You name it they can do it. There is very little one company can do that the next can't. But it is HOW it is implemented. Thats what makes the difference. So what, this phone is 3G and has Edge, this phone can store more, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Thats just statistics. It is the END PRODUCT. It is how it looks, how easy it is to use, how reliable, how long it lasts and all the rest.

When it comes to who is taking the lead in Mobile Solutions then I think SE is up at the very top of the league.

Their reputation speaks for itself. It is generally thought by those in the industry that SE have a good reputation, a reputation which has been earned by hard work and innovation.

How else have they got that reputation? Please someone explain!!!

In my opinion they have taken the lead. So there

@Goldenface i dont disagree that sales are nt everything but do still think they are important to future development. I do disagree with your b and o arguement as they have a much high premium on there products compared to of the shell and se are not higher priced than any other phone maker also b and o dont offer anything you cant get at half the price or better quality a panasonic tv will out perform it in every area and be over half the price. You are paying for the name. In phones pricing is very similar. Yes i do think se are very innovative i just aint sure that the customers are at that level This message was posted from a Nokia
