@gardar: That rule is rather cunning and makes a lot of sense -- will do that in future! Presumably if the phone tries to load a program that is on an absent disc it fails nicely?
@ic2: Thanks for this, but the phone doesn't stay on long enough for the service menu to be any use: see my earlier messages

Have a note of this sequence for the future though -- it's useful that SE are still using the same key combination as was used on my T68!
Phone now off to the service centre....

Hope you are a *happy* Stuart when the babys' back from the Doc. Can you 'arrange'

that they debrand it (if that helps you).
Mine has R4A10 and CDA 162005/6. Unbranded
But most folks who moved to R5A FW too didn't face any hiccups.
But yeah, these things do act up as they become more complex.
The other day mine hung up while I was trying to Text (SMS) and said some '.. error in KERN- EXEC .. Error Code 3'
BtW- Hope you are *very* careful with those charger pin / connector usage. Never put it live

The "Gardar rule" is OK *if* you have only one MemoryStick and don't need to swap MemorySticks.
Imagine you have a MemoryStick with MP3/Ogg files, you have to install the Music player in the C drive, so you can swap MemorySticks.
My rule of thumb is this:
Any system tool and cant-live-without applications go to the C drive.
Applications that might need MemorySitck swap (music players, image viewers, etc) go to the C: drive as well.
Games, entretainment and temporary (demo/trial) applications, music and photos go to the D: drive.

Use the SE Update Service and the *Recovery Mode* there to reflash your mobile.
Had rescued mine last week...
Greetings,

Doesn't the Recovery Mode work ONLY if SEUS has been used before on the set ?
@Gardar> So, do we have a new 'Gardar Rule' now

?
BtW- Are they right when they say- one cant chose the FW Version ? I am not trying to debrand, but if I am trying to get from say HK to a European CDX, can I ?

Just to bring you all up to speed on this folks, the phone has now returned from the service centre and all is well. When I sent it off I cheekily asked them to debrand the phone at the same time, partly in case this was a firmware issue, and partly so that I could more easily get firmware updates in the future -- and they've been kind enough to do this for me.
Having said that, I now have a slightly odd CDA: 162005/2 R4A10. I'm currently waiting for an email from SE in answer to my question of whether they're going to support this with the online update service: currently the website gets a little confused when I tap this in.
So in general I'm quite pleased, though I'm having to replace my (new!) screen protector, as it appears that the service centre removed it, and then replaced it a little stretched and with lots of dust & scratches...
Thanks again for all your advice, folks!
Stuart.
