Raksha Bandhan is one of the warmest festivals in India.. A whole lot of fun...
The only problem is when some girls that you like start chasing you around with a Rakhi talking about making you their brother... But it's all in good fun...
I liked this picture..

I think the story dates back to when a war was occuring in India. A sister tied a "Rakri" on her brothers wrist for good luck and spirit during the war. His arm.he was burnt and the only part of his arm that wasnt burnt was the part under the string.
Symbolising that his sister was potecting him in mind body and spirit whilst at war.
And in return a brother will give his sister (who ties the rakrhi ever year) gifts, such as Indian suits and money for their blessing and protection.
i think this story is compleatly B***s***.the real story...that i think i studied in one of my schooldays language textbooks (hindi) is that a kingdom was badly defeated in a war.most of the men were dead of injured.only the women were left.the queen went to the neighbouring country and pleaded to that king to help her country.the king promised help.in this loving affection, the queen tied on the wrist of the neighbouring country's king a thread aka rakhi and made him her brother.the king promised to help and protect his sister for life.the war was won.
in the present times, people celebrate the festival with the same spirit.sisters tie rakhi on their brothers wrist and pray for their long life.and yes, brothers do give sisters some money as a gift.
the story by jiggyjaggy seemed to be lifted out from some terminator kind of movie."His arm.he was burnt and the only part of his arm that wasnt burnt was the part under the string. "
btw,the picture posted by oogy is also one of my favorite.the picture is from an "axe effect" deoderent print ad which appeared on leading indian newspapers some years ago on Rakshabandhan aka Rakhi day.
