I have a question for everyone. I really like the idea of the in-ear headphones like the Sony MDR-EX71SL, but I've tried some like them and they don't fit me very well, In fact, regular earbud types headphones don't fit me. I guess I've got small ears or something cuz none of them will stay in. Is there anyone out there that may be in the same type situation and could make a recommendation for me? Thanks. I guess I'm just a small earred freak:(

I think I may have the same problem. What works (reasonably) for me is use them "upside down". By this I mean: use them with the elongated bit upward and "thread" the wire behind your ear. It's not easy to explain, but I tried to sketch a picture and attached it.

It even works with the standard handsfree set, although the microphone part kinda dangles awkwardly behind one ear.

A little easier than trying to bother with combining the W800i adapter and the P910 adapter would be to open the mic part of the P910 adapter, de-solder where the headphones are attached, then solder in the cord of your favorite pair of headphones. This is an option that has been done before by a few people on this board, and a little more reliable than cutting connectors.

This way you don't have to figure out the wire layout of either of the connectors nor do you need to worry about a patched section of wire, since the soldered portion will be inside of the the little plastic mic housing.

About the retractable cord on the Seido headset, I suppose I never thought of pulling it apart. My guess woudl be that the wire passes through there mostly untouched, and the mechanism is not actually integrated into the wire. I will have a look at deconstructing it.

@getagrip for headphones that are neither in the ear or earbuds there are plenty out there, but they all start to get a little bulky. For a pair that is fairly small, folds up well and sounds good I would recommend the Sony MDR-D66. I have a pair and love them. They can be a bit hard to find though and sometimes that can drive up the price. I think I paid around $80 US when everything was said and done.

@ Kinght4led and addkn

I love the look of W800 headset, both its bottom and top parts. Still, is the risk i am taking worth it?? I mean have ppl done this cutting and patching b4, becos if i fail BOTH my P910i and W800i (expect it to arrive morrow) would be headset-less. Am i playing against the percentages.

Also, did u guyz try breakn the retractable thingy in ur Sedio and Sp8aa respectively, as i dont c why u cant.

@ Kinght4led

I don understand how i am going to solder the mic in my "favorite pair of headphones". Could u plz be a bit more elaborate? Also a few pics accompanying would be gud.

THank u

BOTTOM LINE : I want to use the HPM 70 in its Entireity (both top and bottom parts_ with my P910i, and the fact that i dished out $500 to buy the W800 just for getting its headset explains my desperation to some extent. PLZ GUYZ, HELP ME OUT

I don't think those headphones you link to will be much better than the supplied set. The way it hangs around you neck and connects to the phone looks downright rediculous.

I will try to take a few photos and explain what I mean by opening the mic section of the P910 headset and soldering in better phones.

Hi,

honestly, I dared not cut the wires as described by your pics. It should be possible to do it, but it's a risk I really wouldn't wish to take...

Cheers

@ Knight4led and ahdhnk

Thx for ur replies guyz

@ Knigh4led

U got me confuse again - "and soldering in better phones"??????

@ ahdhnk

Have u tried to dismantle the retractable thingy of ur Sp8AA, i think it'd be much nicer without it. Give it a thought.

And cheers to every1, have a nice day/night

Hey guys. Did a little project tonight. One of the speakers in my original P910a headset had blown so I decided to try and switch them out with some sony ones. I used a pair of 12 dollar sony earbuds with a scapel and a soldering iron and the results were great. Sounds much better than the original earbuds and they fit me better. Also, this keeps the factory look, which I like. Here's some horrible pics taken by my P910a.

If I had known it was gonna be this easy I'd have done this a long time ago.

care to explain a little better where exactly you cut and soldered, because this is pretty much precisely what I was recommending that others do to their headsets instead of cannibalize the W800 set.
