Just to follow up on my post, I got my P910 a couple of weeks ago, and I've been very pleased with the built-in music player. It's a big improvement on the P800 player I was used to - even simple things like being able to unlock the keypad with just the jog-dial (impossible on the P800) make it a lot nicer to use in this way. Quality of playback is excellent, and - not being one for fancy playlists - I'm quite happy with the folder structure and navigation used.
I don't know if "me too" posts are frowned on here, but what the heck ... ME TOO!

I've not noticed much power drain using OggPlay. In fact I've been pleasantly surprised how little drain there is - seems to go on forever. I find I can use it as a music player quite satisfactorily. Friends with ipods don't seem to get huge battery life anway.
It's not a perfect solution because the flip-closed functionality is limited and of course you have to convert downloaded music to OGG format. It's awkward to swap tunes etc.
The IPOD is a different concept. The mass storage is meant for you to carry around ALL your music and use the pod in the car, at home etc etc. Having said that the Nano series is moving away from that model and into the just-another-mp3 player territory.
A p910 is good for me cos I just carry a 5-10 CDs worth of music which I change when I get bored. I can't be arsed to carry a phone and an MP3 player and a pocket PC along with a wallet, keys etc etc. I want one device that's always in my pocket.
