Ok, maybe SE won't launch P991 or P920, but does anybody know something about the phone that everyone here called P1000?
I mean, will SE launch it?

We'll see next year as General Manager Country Sony Ericsson Indonesia said that SE will launch twenty (20) new mobile phones in 2006 focusing in three (3) areas: imaging, entertainment and smartphone. Some of these phones will be 3G or EDGE handsets, music phone, and camera phone above 2 megapixels.
You know, SE is #2 in Indonesia after Nokia...

Actually, now that I'm thinking a bit, Samsung and Siemens (or should I say Benq now?) does the same: There are I think at least then x55 series siemens phones, and I cannot even count the samsung phones. But at least samsung makes more differences in their phones, so porting java games is much harder

I do not see anything wrong with a manufacturer releasing multiple versions of the same device. Look at nokia. Look at Samsung.
Look at ice-cream. There's vanilla flavour, strawberry and a host of other flavours. There's something for most people, so more people buy ice-cream.
There's Coke: regular, diet, vanilla etc.
Then there's bread...
Even churches now have Sunday morning, afternoon and evening services, to cater for people with different schedules.
Simple good business (or whatever) sense. And everyone who is doing it seems to be making good sales.
If and when SE has the cash to play with, it is good business sense to do so.

Maybe they don't want to be like every one else. Releasing 60 phones that are basically the same dang thing.
Your reasoning is ridiculous.

I get irritated with nokia constantly releasing phones with no differences, its not to please customers its just to make money (you could argue thats the point of a business I suppose).
To be honest what SE are doing is good, people know what they are getting, thay arn't phased by 1000000000 phones each with such minor differences, they have a b or c and thats it.
The only down side with SE and the smartphones is the long wait, I think 3 every 2 years would be a little better, but Im still happy with what they are doing. At the end of the day though even if SE don't release 50 smartphones, there are still plenty of other smartphones available. (Although I am sticking with SE)

the day SE releaseŽs a k750/t610/k700 kind of phone with UIQ 3.0 will be the day iŽll be converted to smartphones...and i guess many others also
to make a smartphone with such low weight and dimensions would be revolutionary

p990 buyer doesn't care for dimensions, weight, and especially for price.
excuse me?
doesn't care for size?
that's the MAIN reason to get a P-series phone: it's smaller than most other pda/phone combos, and still keeps the phone usability optimized.
price is definately a thing to care about ... most of the px00 users i see and know paid for them from their own pocket. companies that hand out business cellphones usually stick with nokia, usually the 6 series. 6210s are still widely used.

The problem with Nokia is that regardless of how much a few - and i mean very few people - people do not like their strategy, it works (esato members make up a minute fraction of phone users worldwide).
Nokia users must be pleased customers. How come there are so many die-hard Nokia enthusiasts? How come that most Nokia users are not even Nokia fanatics? They just buy a Nokia because Nokia presents them with enough choices. And they keep buying Nokia simply because they are happy with it. It cannot be for lack of brand options.
There's nothing ridiculous about my reasoning (if that was aimed at me). Fashion designers the world over take the same textile material and weave it into God knows how many shapes and colours - and millions all over the world buy those clothes again and again. Basically, same material, same capabilities, just a different form.
I am not a fashion guy. But the world seems to like fashion (by this I mean diversity, even if its only in form and not function). That's the way the world works, whether we like it or not.
SE may or may not adopt that marketing strategy. It really does not matter what they do. But it sure will help their sales if they do.
Look at Nokia: they release a communicator once evry 3 or 4 years. They know that its a niche product, so there's no proliferation there. Now they understand that there are lots of other phone users who need simplicity but some advanced features. So they churn out Series 60 like ice from a freezer - and the people lap it up!
The P-series are a niche product too (not as much as the communicators are). The stylus/touchscreen and price combination make sure of that. SE needs a "junior smartphone" and in a few variants. Or simply release a slightly "crippled" variation of the p-series for the generality of people.
Choices, people. Choices. That's the name of the game.

@mores- of course, i agree on that, but only people with deep pocket can afford 500-600e phone (at least here) and if you have that much money for a phone, you don't care for 30e more or less.
i personally would like phone like p910+wifi+3g-camera, and a bit smaller, but i'd never have enough money for it. i'll probably have to go for k750 or z800. :-(
