I brought it out due to the fact that P990 would be the most complex phone from SE. We know as a fact when P800 was released, it was very buggy. When P990 is released it would be in the same situation as P800. At this moment, UIQ3 is not even commercially released.
Yes, bugs are fact-of-life. There are scattered harmless bugs or swamp of deadly bugs (i.e. those that cause hang/reboot/data corruption). My opinion is that P990 got a very good chance of catching the latter type.

To tell you the truth, I would also be very interested in taking a serious look at this phone and how it stands up against Series60 and WM5 non-touchscreen.

I agree P990 will be a similar situation to P800. Nevertheless there are many VERY satisfied P800 owners out there, despite the early problems. I suppose I rarely rush out and buy something when it's still very new, so I rarely get stung with early firmware versions.
And to be honest, I guess I feel those who "must have" the latest and greatest at all times, must pay the inevitable cost of being first in best dressed. It's par for the course.
My one exception was K750, I jumped into that as soon as I could wing it (changed operators for a cheapie - Vodafone were giving me the shits). The lure of expandable memory and 2MP camera was too much. I fully expected problems, and was ready to wear them, but no such problem eventuated.
And thankfully I have resisted the lure of R1N

This is why SE are so respected by many phone junkies - each phone in it's class usually has more going for it than phones from other manufacturers. SE have a habit of chucking 'everything' available in that class into one phone, when other manufacturers have the same features, but spread out over 4 different handsets!!
Finally you can say the same about their pda phone (P910 is getting a bit long in the tooth).

Have you heard of sub-market targeting. Nokia has so many 3G handsets that it can customize them for a particular sub-market segments. The higher potential of 3G is in data rather than video call.
E-series is targeted at enterprise market. That's why the camera is not essential or wanted. Wait for NMC in Nov and you will see the E-series equivalent targeting the mass-market.

SE phones maybe loaded with functions. However, the wise should know that more may not be better. This is especially so when the "more" are mediocre and worst still cause more bugs. Take a look at the long-winded way to activate the speaker phone in the K700 and u know what I mean.

K700 is old, K750 is one button press.
However I agree about market segmentation and SE have started to do so in a big way - aka 3 x decent 3G phones; a sliding scale of feature sets from the K300 to K750; plus P, J, F, K and W series handsets all aimed at their own market segment.
And soon to come a hardscreen smartphone
maybe two (one a walkman
)
