fair nuff

Still, here in Australia, as I said, it's more expensive to make your own, unless you already have spare components (you still had to pay for 'em somewhere along the line).

And about the soldering, I disagree. Some people have an apptitude for it, but most beginner solderers make an ungodly mess. Audio cables with RCA plugs are more demanding than steel 3.5mm plugs with regard to signal attenuation. You need a good strong connection, otherwise the audio quality will be no better than a 3.5mm connection. There is a reason RCA plugs are used in stereo equipment; it provides much better signal transfer than 3.5mm plugs.

Obviously you have done a good job on yours. But until you test against an mmc-60 you can't say your cable and adapter give as good a connection as a single mmc-60 lead. As I said, the difference in mmc-60 and the hpm70 is marked - the mmc-60 is quite a bit better in audio quality. I can tell, and I'm no audio expert.

To make you own mmc-60 (to give the same audio quality as the real thing), you would need to use gold plated rca plugs, and to avoid the break where the 3.5mm adapter plugs into the cable, you would require a fastport connector as well. (Breaks introduce attentuation as well).

So your cable works fine on an adapter or even a hpm-70, but it still doesn't rival the audio quality possible with a true mmc-60. Another disadvantage with the home made cable, it doesn't have molded rubber plugs, so the cable has to be treated with care so as not to stress the connections. A manufacturer cable is more durable.

I'm not dissing your effort or information, it is certainly an option. I'm only pointing out that audio quality is better with a true mmc-60, and that in some cases it may actually be more expensive to make you own cable.
