that tiny light is much stronger than any of my flashlight around. compare it with the light of nokia's 1100... it's like halogen versus led

if it wasn't as bright as it is then i don't think it'd be very useful

I thought of that too.
On occasion I have used it but riding one handed. I've thought about adapting a pouch for it so I can use it as a handsfree headlight.

The flash is needed to be ON prior to taking the picture in order to assist with the Autofocus. Without it the camera won't be able to focus propelry. I puchased the additional "true" flash and it makes a huge difference when taking shots in the dark or dim environment. It can trully light up a room and the shots don't end up at ISO 800 the way some of my shots with just the built in flash do.

I am not sure how bright is this. But the reason the light stays on, is make sure that even at night you can still see in the view finder.
Thats why it goes even brighter when you actually snap the pic.
