@Shawo

Why not revive the chatroom again? We definitely have a strong following now.

why not raise funds on the next Pinoy EB?
like helding a party with tickets, then all the profit will be used for the upgrade of Esato
or raffle tickets with prices like a new t68i or SE accessories(somthin like that )

I don't want to change Esato into paid site. Some of the success of Esato lays in something I embrace very much: it's for free. The cost of running Esato should not be transfered to the members/visitors. The membership issue is not an option. What I might consider do is trying a Pay-pal solution where you have the option to contribute with whichever amout you want.

The current machine configuration is working satisfactory. Linux/mysql with 1GHz CPU and 1.5 GB RAM is running with a load below 0.80. The mysql-database is processing on average 60 queries per second and up to 150 queries in peak times.
This should be sufficient for a couple of months. It's the network rental that costs money at the moment. 8GB daily data transfer is expensive! I'm currently subscribing to a 160GB per month deal, and this is costing me $600 monthly. Problems like the machine at 193.252.56.174 caused today by trying to downloading the entire site (500000++ pages times ave. 10kb per page = 5GB extra) resulted in a couple of minutes downtime and additional cost for me.

If Esato not is rising money in a short time, it will be closed down. New advertisers are expected in Nov/Dec, but that may be too late.

@Wings_Talons
The slots are full. I've just swapped two 256Mb with two 512Mb cards. Two 1Gb cards was too expensive. The machine only have 3 memory slots. A new member can post 500 posts within a couple of hours. You wouldn't let her be able to delete all posts because she reached the 500 post limit would you? Yes, many of the old posts could be deleted, but some may find them interesting, and I would prefer them to live on..

I agree about the donating money idea, and as a thanks you'd get a little symbol next to your name.
I for one feel that the help and enjoyment i get out of Esato easily are worth 20 bucks or so.

Just my 2 cents.

Actually Laffen, PM me your addy and i'll put a 20 in an envelope tomorrow and send it to ya !
I challenge anyone and everyone reading this to follow my example !

I suppose @captainsm that you are currently in gainful employment and are not scraping together enough money to try and stop someone reposessing your home.

I think that easto is the best thing that ever happened to me when it comes to finding out about my mobile phone.

I unforntunately cannot afford to send $20 to laffen. Even though I would very much like to.

If things turn around for me I will be more than pleased to send some money in. It's only a matter of weeks and I may disappear from esato way before it disappears from me.

Sorry guys for the doom and gloom, but my world has turned to shit in the last few months. Sad but true.

@ laffen... It really might sound obvious but have you tried to contact ?

A part from that I think that advertisement is good, and also paypal would be a good idea. As you said... It will still be free, but those who want to could really contribute. I think that 30% would...
It makes 2351 users (calculated on the memberslist of the date and time of my post).
If you multiply this, let's say, on an average 20 USD, it makes 47020 USD. I think this might cover your expenses... 30% seems to me a fairly possible percentage...
And 20 USD really not a lot of money for such a great site. And only those who have the possibility to send them could...

I know this is more money than what you need... But you could also end the paypal as soon as you received all the money you need... And yes, I think adding an icon to those who paid would be great.

Even if everyone of those 30% would send 10 USD (which is less than 1 USD a month, the price of 3 to 4 sms (depending on operators)) you would be able to maintain the site...
So I propose that we all send laffen 3 to 4 sms a month for one year and keep this FANTASTIC SITE up and running...

Someone from France Why don't you just block that IP number(s)?

Laffen, I don't know if they are still available and to be honest, I don't even know how much they cost, but a couple of years back we could get stacked RAM's. That is RAM chips that allow you to stack one on top of other and therefore the number of slots didn't matter. Maybe overall they would turn out to be cheaper. I will ask my techie friends and see if they are still available.
