"Also is a pity SE can't sort out the stability problems with the P990 ! The cell has been envisaged/ designed 1year ago (hence the somewhat outdated specs.) and we are still waiting for its release ! I think they should cancel the P990 and bring out the P1000 with specs more in line with 2006". I'm sorry to observe Mario that u r really biased towards Nokia and against SE. Plus reading the quote above I realize u never tried a P990 and u don't know what u r talking about. This is a thread about pro and cons, not about taking part to a flame war.Stop dissing the brands and get to the point in here. How old r u anyway, 11? This message was posted from a WAP device

Interesting article in The Register this morning. After readin this I'd certainly say Symbian:

If you ask yourself why in 2000 Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola (the big three at the time) decided to start Symbian and not use Microsoft - what was the reason for not turning to the M$ based computer industry to produce a good quality OS for Smartphones? The computer industry, dominanted by M$, has made buggy software and faulty devices the norm. Mobile phone manufacturers would not accept this as their communications devices need to be rock solid. The Register article shows that the real engineering that goes on under the hood of Symbian. Less hype and more delivery. But I still like to have choice, so lets hope M$ get their act together.

It all boils down to the basic. WM was developed from a computer OS. Do you want another Windows OS with it's possibility to crash on your phone? Symbian was specifically developed for the mobile phone. Personally I prefer the Symbian solution, because with the WM version I just have the feeling of another computer.

I use both WM5 and Symbian and I am unhappy that unlike SE HTC, the makers of the Universal, did NOT test it properly. It has many bugs. I am sorry I really can't agree with your view based on the fact that my US$1000 Universal has so many faults (at the moment it is being repaired). Even the P800, released in late 2001, did not have fundamental problems that WM5 has such a memory leakage. I repeat I use WM5 I am not just inventing this stuff. I would much rather wait 2/3 months longer and have a solid P990 (which by the way has specs that no other WM5 device can meet today!).

P800 released in late 2001 ? ? ? , I love SE that's why I am here I guess, I just don't like the way how SE try to disguise the 'new' P-series. Trust me they have stability and speed problems with the 'new' cell. Don't forget, it still uses the same chip Nokia used in their 6630 released in DEC 2004 ! ! ! It will have to stand its ground ( if released) against the N80, N92, etc. ! ! ! I think Nokia and the rest (SE included) should stand together on this one if they want to stop Micro-$oft. For now Symbian with the S60 interface seems quite successful, although it has plenty of short comings ! I think UIQ3 will be history before the the end of the decade as is now its previous 'incarnation'. Also SE should stop fooling around with its trusted customers and be more truthful with the issues. UIQ3 shares so little with the previous release, SE only uses the name as a public stunt ! Basically is a new OS ! Well let's hope I am wrong and the P990 will be a phenomenal hit (when released) but I very much doubt

i put this in a different thread but thought i would add my two pence to this one to

Symbian was designed to be a phone from the start, now im not saying that makes it better but it is definitely the logical way to go.
If you need your device to be a phone first.
i.e
batt (dont start saying my imate last two days or other stuff like that as i use both and my p will last a good 5 days as a phone. ( notice the PHONE bit please )

so as a conclusion i think the p series IS a much better Phone .

Now to the pda part yes you are right i think WM does have more power than SYM based phones due to the prossesors the programs and so on but that is not to say that they are better at it.

I remember an old comarison between a bbc micro and a pentium based pc both running word processor software and yes the pc had a spell check/grammar and so on but in all test was slower than the bbc micro at doing the job at hand.

I Know that the p990 will do every job your WM based phone will do how fancy it does or how fast it does it doent make it any worse at doing it

so as a pda conclusion if you have a job that needs to be done and thats it go for WM it will probebly do it faster and fancy-er .
but if that job has to be done again tommorow without charging and so on go for the p990 because at least you will still have your phone.
at the end.

example
If i wanted to watch a film i would choose the WM but if i wanted to watch the full serise of the lord of the rings and still have a phone then it has to be the P

FINAL CONCLUSION
For me and my usage it has to be the p ( it will always get me out of trouble )
