this is a common argument and was true of early pocketpc implementations of phone functionality, but pocketpc redesigned from the ground up and thence renamed to windows mobile with the specific reason being that it would be used to a larger extent in phone form.
MS have never done anything from the ground up

I've mentioned a few times that I use my k-jam extensively. This includes at least 2 hours a day browsing, also checking email automatically every 15 minutes, endless calls, contact look ups, a few games etc etc and I'm still left with 70-75% battery remaining.

i rest my case you mite make day three at a push

IMHO the WM PDA syncs much better with outlook and on the device itself provides better functionality for finding your data be it contacts, notes etc etc
[quote]
never had a problem and if people do i think its the windows pc that has it and not the symbian phone

How many of us don't go home every night and stick our phone on a cradle or equivalent to both sync and charge the device

lets see start a poll batt vs power i am for batt
[quote]
I don't understand that unfortunately as they both provide the same functionality in regards to watching a movie and answering calls, well, except that the k-jam has a larger screen for less squinty viewing

i dont think there is any WM based phone out there that could last 9 hours of playing films

massuer sometimes i use video which is already a WMV clips which is 3 minutes long and its still slow and lost of sound or if its a long film like 800 megs i use Windows Media Encoder, the same thing i used for my or should i say the best pocket pc the I-mate Jam

now that was wicked, fast and furious lol

anyways i never had problems with the i-jam. the Windows Media Encoder converted my 800 megs films to a Pocket Pc platform should we say and compresses it to 150 megs with good quality. i like pocket pc, and the k-jam too but i dont think the k-jam CPU is fast enough for vedios, its just too slow. and im sure your previous Pocket Pc you had was fast enough maybe the CPU was fast. Have you ever watched movies on your k-jam massuer?

I watch movies alot, though probably 75% music videos rather than full length.
I don't use windows media player mobile to view though, I use TCPMP which is optimised for various CPU's and has loads of options for fine tuning itself and thus gives much better performance than WMP10

I know this not really help, but it shows that we all have different needs and different option. My ideal combination:
- XDA Exec for PDA functions and web browsing (once memory leaks etc are fixed)
- P990 for phone calls, PIM on the move and MP3s
- PSP for videos
No matter what people say, once you have seen videos on a PSP you will not want to use a PDA for this.
I don't believe in convergence devices as specialist devices get better all the time. e.g. my wife's standard SE K750 has a much better camera than my very expensive XDA Exec.

Huh, what about a mini laptop then ? You will never want to watch movies on a PSP after watching them on a mini laptop ;-)

okay i don't want to repeat what already been said, Masseur has given some good highlights.
I've been wanting to post this for a while but just haven't gotten the time, firstly some background, I've had all the p series phones and am planning on getting the p990, I currently have a jasjar which is also my first experience with the pocket pc os.
hardware comparison:
the p series have always been well constructed and have had great designs yes the p910 was a bit of a letdown feature wise but still a great little performer, if you compare all the p series phones with their rivals at the time they clearly won.
The windows devices are all from 3 or 4 manufacturers in Taiwan, HTC being the largest of them at the moment, Feature wise the phones are great on paper, build quality and materials are not up to sonyericsson standard in my opinion, I don't want to go into to much detail, but stuff like edges of the plastic looks rough unfinished and phones definitely don't look durable. don't even think my jasjar will survive a fall on a tiled floor unscathed unlike the p series even the plasticy p800 could take incredible abuse and come out tops. mind you the build quality is improving with every model released.
Software:
here i will agree whole heartedly with Masseur the ability to find contact info on the windows devices is phenomenal no need to go into the search function and still not find what you are looking for, just start typing and you get what you looking for, Today vies is great and the soft keys go a long way to improoving interaction with the OS, but make no mistake people the 5 way jog dial is king in the land of navigating the os especially in conjunction with the stylus on the p series, the windows devices remind me of nokia series 40, the soft key just don't do what you would expect them to in conjunction with the 4 way directional button, same like in series 40 handsets, if you've used a 6230 you'll know exactly what I mean, and this is annoying, using the browser is good like Masseur said, but I miss opera with its multi window browsing on the p series. The os is alot better for phone use then before, alot better in fact almost as good as p series,
Know to get the myths out of the way:
! Software wise windows 5 is no better than UIQ 3 both of which will need a complete library of apps to be rewritten same with the new series 60 from Nokia, This is great as all the major mobile OSes are on level ground again, UIQ has a slow start but thats because the OS is not complete yet, but all of them have very few 3rd party apps wright now, so don't go out and get a K-Jam thinking you going to get tons of great apps for it cause you won't
! Stability of OS, Windows 5 is very stable even more so than my p series had it for almost a month now and not 1 crash. so don't let that put you off, forget the MS jokes, the devices are stable, now instability comes into play when you start loading ppc 2003 apps on this thing, simply put thats what causes wm5 to start acting up.
! Ease of use yes wm5 is new and great advances but nothing beats the ease of use of the uiq os and the p990 is going to be even easier to use, I mean, its such a hassle just to get my MMS working on this thing its unreal, on pseries you just sent the OTA settings to your phone and it works,
! Another myth is the ease at wich wm5 syncs with outlook, complete !@#$ this things syncing ability is !@# and thats putting it nicely, I don't know a single person who hasn't had a headache with wm5, yes when it syncs it does a good job but so did all my pseries phones and those worked first time every time, this wm5 doesn't stay connected to your pc long enough to transfer a 4 meg file, so get a card reader with it.
And thats the big differerences in my opinion, P series especially now that p990 is coming will trump the wm5 devices in my opinion, BUT, the wm5 does have the beneffit of intergrating quite well (after alot of hours spent configuring it) with a company MS infrastructure like exchange, terminal services, vpn and the like and thats why I will keep it, lets face no other product on the market is going to intergrate so well out of the box with Microsoft stuff like a microsoft phone.
hope my opinions help some people make a more informed choice when purchasing their next handset and one more thing if you want to run alot of multimedia stuff on your wm5 device you better off with the jasjar than k-jam, yes battery is not as good as K-Jam, but charging your phone every 2 days is not a problem if you have a usb cable at work and the charger at home

@mad_bob - now that you've had a good chance to play with it, whats your verdict?

Finding it difficault to get used to, as in no jog dial which is a pain. Its also a bit slow. For features though, its cool, especially the Wifi.
