I think Motorola has done well with Motorola V3. The pink razr is a Carphone Warehouse exlusive in the UK, and on its release day, 1st November 2005, We sold more than 3000 in the first hour alone.
I think Motorola has realised the success of this iconic phone and by releasing it in so many different colours, they are responding to feedback from the public and making it available in a colour to suit almost any person. Its almost like re-inventing itself (abit like Madona, though I dont know if there are enough different colours to compete with the number of times she has pulled it off!!)
