I know have an important question... I have seen all of these phones and I am really impressed with their features. Now...
WHY DOES IT TAKE AGES TO RELEASE A 4096 COLOR PHONE IN EUROPE???
I am not talking specifically about the P800 (it is a Pda phone so things might be different...).
But why are all new
phones so "poor" here in Europe (T300 and other ones). if they want to gain market share, why don't they use their huge know how? I mean, they are PRODUCING AMAZING PHONES RIGHT NOW IN JAPAN and here in Europe they wonder why they can't get over Nokia (which doesn't have that much know how).
Let's face it... They are squeezing our money selling us phones that are two years old compared to what they are actually producing back there...

Thought they could have brought some innovative things from Japan, but the only innovative features of the t68 (and all actual phones) are Ericsson MADE. Up to now I still wonder what did Sony bring to us... Nothing!!!
Except ugly design.
Am I the only one feeling that way?

Patience, it takes at least 12 months to bring a new phone to market. So if the jv began one year ago today, than we should start seeing different product within 6months. I expect to see better color and clam shell phones as early as maybe April developed by the jv.

I think there are a few reasons why European phones are worse than Japanese phones.
For years, the best European manufacturers focused on the lower end (prepay) of the market, because that is where the exploding growth was. Technology advances fell by the wayside, and Japan soared ahead.
I also understand that you can upgrade your phone every 6 months in Japan, even if you are tied to a 12 month contract. This must mean that replacement rates in Japan are much higher than in Europe (its averages about 18 months in the UK), giving manufacturers more incentive to push the boundaries with new features to make people change their handset.

The T68 was first announced in March 2001, and launched the following October. Where is the replacement? Are you telling me in the 18 months since the T68 announcement, all the designers of Sony and ALL the designers of Ericsson cannot come up with an adequate successor? or even announce a new high end (non PDA) phone? If they can't, they should all be fired!
But, on a positive note, I think things are changing for the better in Europe. Nokia have realised the need for technological innovation to get people to replace their new handsets. The 3650 and 3510i, however ugly they are, will drive the market forward. Other manufacturers will have to deliver videoclips in high-end handsets, and MMS in entry level handsets just to compete with Nokia.
However, I believe Nokia are hiding a lack of technological knowledge behind funky designs. If they could have made the 3650 smaller, they would have. but I don't think they know how. The phone is massive! This is where
could beat them if they pull their finger's out!

I don't know, I red your posts carefully, but I still wonder why Panasonic, Sharp or even Sony (before joint-venturing) didn't try seriously to conquer the european market. They had everything to beat Nokia... But they didn't. That is why I feel we, as europeans, are just using old phones...
Things might change with 3G.
Lokk at it... Until last year ALL phones in Europe were black and white... (except Siemens which tried something). Radio, Mp3, camera were unheard of... I think that the release of t68 gave an enormous boost to the european market. In that last year more things have changed than in the two ones before...
At least Ericsson moved everything. Now I expect
to profit from it and let the other chase and not, as it was until t68m, the other way round.
I really think that t68m began a revolution in the european market, and I am really happy about it. How many color phones did we have last year by that time? And how many do we have now?
I hope things will continue to develop the way they did... And that
will lead changes. I am afraid they will not be able to though...
