Pretty sure there is no minimum. You could take it with no lessons if you really wanted!

Insurance is a bugger for young men. If they let you try and go on as a named driver with direct line - as they will give you a no claims bonus as well as your mum even though you are only a named driver. Also get a quote from a company called frizzel or frizell (not sure on spelling) they were the cheapest for me in my first few years.

If you are getting a cheapish car and it's going to be a few years old then you need to be concerned with build quality. Now please don't all the saxo owners flame me cos i kno it is a nice car but lets not try and pretend that citroen are renowned for their build quality. I would look for a polo or you can pick up some older model A-classes pretty cheap now.

my first car was a fiesta and they are THE most fun car i have ever driven. Seriously i have driven LOADS of my mates cars and various company cars and none have come close to my fiesta (it was a mark 4 0 oval shaped headlights one) not the greatest lookin but was just quality to drive! anyone who drove it always agreed - and i never had any major probs with it either.

Try and go for a small local insurance company. I got quoted £1700 by Norwich Union for a 1.3 1997 Polo.
With a small local insurance company I can get insured for around a grand but I'll wait til next year before I go jumping the gun.

I had the 1.3 which is slower than the 1.25 as the 1.25 is 16v and mine was only 8v. The 1.25 is also the aluminum zetec engine so it's lots lighter. Put it this way if i was so inclined (and it was legal to do so!) nothing used to beat me 0-30/40ish i.e. it's off the line speed was great. Can only assume the 1.25 would be just as good (although as the engine is more complex and computer managed you may experience a slight lag at start off. I have 1.6 focus zetec and i find it hessitates for a half a second before setting off unless i hold the revs at 2700ish before dropping the clutch) Engine needed reving quite hard to get the best out of it. The 1.3 didnt have much left in it at motorway speeds and although i have a friend who has the 1.25 and his seemed to cope just fine.

As i mentioned the handling was superb! the best i have ever experienced - read the reviews on the car and most comment on it's great handling!

Was good on petrol and the 1.25 is meant to be even better!

Anymore questions just ask.
