I just went back to my K800i, but I still use my P910i when the mood takes me!
Cant believe I waited so long to be so disapointed with the P990i. Ah well.

@ jah
true with what you say except:
- no predictive text
(You don't need predictive text if you have a full qwerty keyboard. PT is only useful if you have numerical keys such as a standard phone. Plus there are a few apps that do predictive texting for Palm such as WordComplete).
- cam only 1.3mp (not sure you can capture video)
(Cam is less than 1mp actually

but it can capture video too).
- video playback not as good the P990
(Video playback direct from a video recording is not the best but video playback of avi/mpeg files etc using TCPMP - The Core Pocket Media Player, is fantastic and extremely high quality).
- no multi-tasking
(Again for me, I don't need multi tasking. Playing music in the background on the treo as I use other apps is enough for me).

Treo 650 (I had one for 6 months):
- no FM radio
- no 3G
- no wifi
- no BT 2.0 or A2DP
- no predictive text
- cam only 1.3mp (not sure you can capture video)
- video playback not as good the P990
- no multi-tasking
Screen better in the sun than the P990
Good summary there Jah.
I'm really not sure why anyone would consider the P990i against the Treo 650 - one is a brand new device with a brand new OS, the other is a device which is now long in the tooth and running an OS well past it's sell by date.
Let us also not forget the fact that the Treo 650 has been withdrawn from sale in the UK and other than existing stocks cannot be sold new anymore (due to lack of RoHS compliance).
IMO right now if you want a 3G touchscreen device with Wifi and a reasonable camera your only real alternative is the HTC TyTN - some of us who have tried both like the TyTN whereas others (like myself) prefer the P990i - I think it is about a 50/50 split.
Until Palm pull something out of the bag (and I'll ignore the 750v - they "forgot" to put Wifi, a decent camera, BT 2.0 and a decent screen resolution in there), I can't see there being much genuine competition for comparable devices to the P990i from anyone other than HTC - which I honestly think is a shame as a bit of competition would do everyone some good.

What fascinates me about this is that if people are happy to revert to something like a K750i/K800i as a daily phone then they didn't ever really *need* a powerful device like the P990i with all that it can do in the first place.

Agree. Treo is an old phone and not really comparable to others released now but it works and works well. For me, that is important.

@tboy2000
I think the comparison with the Treo 650 is less and less relevant as sleepyhead pointed out. I have used the P990 and Treo 650 and the P990 is faster because of the predictive text, actually the M600 is even faaster because of its innovative keyboard.
I have used the Core video player on my Lifedrive, but not on the Treo, and the on-board graphics acceleration of the P990 cannot be beaten by s/w! The P990 is even better than the 400mhrz TyTN and 520mhrz HTC Universal.

There is a fine difference between needing and wanting. I wanted the P990i as I was a massive fan of the P900, and P910i (I still have both). I also wanted the P990i so that I did not have to carry around a laptop with me wherever I go. I still need something that will allow me to do that, but I'll wait until the support rises, and he price falls.

From my side I think that I will end up with a P990i and a P300 combo!

I had a t610, then a k700, then a k750, and i avoided k800, and bought instead a P990 because i did in fact need such powerfull device, knowing i wouldn´t have something so slim and light like the other devices
And i´m happy with my choise...it does what i needed
