I wonder if it had a damaged sim card reader, a damaged pin or something that scratched your sim card. My O2 contract sim has been in many a phone, including a few that have turned out to be blocked with no problems, i'm surprised actually that this one hasn't worn out through being swapped between phones quite frequently!

the phone was totally Barred, tried every sim card in it and it was blocked to every network,
Sammy ask o2 for a new sim card,
just make up some sob story
ive had 2 off them this yr luckily they don'#t charge for replacements yet like orange
